RE: fuel
The problem is economics. The mat'ls used are expensive and in small quantities even more so. The nitro methane used is very volatile in it's pure form and is therefore very expensive to ship because of the hazmat fees. The only way you could even think of mixing your own fuel is if you had a local source for the ingredients. Otherwise the shipping would kill you.
You might be able to mix your own fuel economically if you used FAI fuel, that is 0% nitro. Then all you would need is methanol and oil. Commercially made fuel also has wetting agents, corrosion inhibitors, etc.
Regards,
Mike

RE: fuel
You can go to any VP Racing Fuels center (if you can find one ) and they will mix custom fuel in 15 gallon or larger batches. It comes out cheaper... but you have to put it in the gallon jugs yourself. (15 gallon drum) They only mix batches in the amounts equal to drum sizes...
If your local rep has a group that regularly buys from him... he might keep a 55 gallon drum pre-mixed and sell individual gallons. (you bring the jug labeled for model fuel)
Some other companies to try... Texaco, Chevron... (anyone that makes fuel for "Top fuel" dragsters)
The problem comes from storage of the drum of fuel (who wants a 15 gallon drum of it inthier garage? Your insurance agent would NOT like it.) and transfering it into jugs.
It is best to do ALL the transfering into the gallon jugs at one shot, to minimize air exposure to the fuel. Each time you open the drum... it exchangs some air with the surroundings and the air contains moisture. Moisture in the fuel is bad.

RE: fuel
What it boils down to is if you don't have a local source for the methanol and nitro you're not going to be mixing your own fuel. And even then, you either need to use a lot of it or have friends to split it with.
