RE: LHS or Online
I don't have a choice, my LHS doesn't stock hardly anything in the way of heli stuff. I have ordered from:
Heli Hobby http://www.helihobby.com
Hobby Lobby http://hobby-lobby.com/
Heli Proz http://www.heliproz.com/
Balsa Products http://www.balsapr.com/
and Century http://www.centuryheli.com/
Had good luck with all of them.
Regards,
Mike

RE: LHS or Online
I visit the LHS... and ask if they can order the stuff I need. 9 times out of 10... I have what I wanted by the Thursday after I ask for it (if I ask by Tuesday)

In the country where I live now, I could not find a single store that provides everytning I need, so I went on-line to www.heli-kraft.com

RE: LHS or Online
As r/c heli's are a lot more compex to set-up and trim properly, I always suggest that if you are lucky enough to have an LHS that has someone who knows and flies helicopters go with them. When you are beginning, their help will more then make up for the money and frustrations saved if they are (as is usually the case) a bit more expensive then the on-liners.
But if your LHS is mostly car or airplane oriented, then buy from the on-liners and travel whatever distance it takes to go see someone who can set it up and do the initial flights for you.
If you have experience flying airplanes I am sure you understand the importance of a newbie seeking help to initially test fly and trim out his first airplane. As a heli is even more complex, IMHO it is even more important for someone to do so to a newbies heli.

RE: LHS or Online
I have never ordered anything to do with models on the net. There are two shops that I buy from, one of them is my first choice but they do not sell a lot of stuff I buy (Jr radio gear for one). I will for the first time order something from tower in a few weeks. I will be getting a G401 Gyro and servo combo and an OS 50 heli engine. I can get these for about $150 cheaper off the net than my LHS. Although I try to support my LHS as much as I can.

RE: LHS or Online
Well, I'm not having a heli, yet, but anyways, I like to buy from the LHS just so I can support them and everything. But, when it comes to the net, you CANT BEAT ONLINE PRICES......I had a guy offering me $130 for a Futaba 6EXA and at the LHS it was $180.......I should have bought from that guy......I mean he had good feed back, but I just have never sought to trust the internet.....Just think of how much trouble it would be if the person sent you something screwed up or something......it would be a lot of trouble to talk to them and get everything settled out....
I'm sure that I will either by from an online store, or someone from the RCU Marketplace when I get my Rappy sometime after this summer, and just try everything out....
I don't think (or hope) that I won't have any problems.....!!
HAPPY FLYING
PS....When you get your LHS to ship something, the mark up is like $30 or $40 depending on what you get......
