I have owned a honey bee 2 now for about six weeks. I am determined to fly this heli well. I have had experience in elec cars over years but have never flowen. It seems i have choosen one of the most difficult machines to fly!! I have been through radds flying lessons which has been a great help. However I am concerned that a few thing may not be right with my set up.For a start When I first recieved the heli it seemed to have alot more lift than what it does now. Now I cant seem to get it more than 4 feet high? I have a second battery as well which is new(9.6v NiMh) with the same result.
Also I am aware that a degree of wobble is normal at low head speed. But the head certainly doesnt
seem to be spinning centre at all. At higher speed the wobble dissapates away quite a bit. Is this more than just a normal wobble. I have replaced the drive shaft after a crash so this is a fairly new part.
Is this wobble going to affect my stability and my daily traning efforts will be fruitless???
Please, anyone. a little desperate here as I have NOOOOO one in my country to help me.
JUST ANYTHING!!!

Are you using the stock motor? The motor that come with those micro heli aren't much good, they don't last very long. I have read where people have only got 20 flights out of them. I only got about 40 flights out of mine and I had to change it. The heli only coming off the ground 4 feet is a pretty good sign that the motor is toast (if your batteries are taking a full charge). Get yourself a brushless motor and you will see a big difference.

Hey float, the nimh batteries are alot heavier than Lithium, With 11.1 LIPO the honey bee 2 has plenty of power, however with the 8.4 volt pack that came with it i can barely get it to lift a couple of feet also.
Try a 3 cell lipo, just remember it will put alot of strain on your motors, ( especially tail motor) so i keep a few spares, theyre only a couple bucks each. And use the simulator i wasnt using it at first because i couldnt get the controller to work on my computer, finally i just ended up using a dual stick controller thats made for pc's for games. even though its not the honey bee's transmitter im learning with on the sim, it still helped my co ordination alot!.

I think the main motor is loosing its full power. If you can get the 3 cell Lithium which is 11.1 volt (don't go over 1800 mAH), you will see more power. The spare main motor is not that expensive, so you should try a new one. Put the hat sink on both motors and they will last longer. Keep your flying session about 5 minutes and rest the motors until they cool down. Going brushless will be too expensive because you will have to go "separate" which means a nex RX, new ESC, new gyro.
As for the vibration, because you have crashed it so you have to check more than just a new main shaft. See if the spindle shaft (the one that goes through the main blade grips) is still true. Also, check the tracking while you are hovering and see if the flybar is level. You will want to get it run as smooth as possible for your flying success.

Thanks heaps guys, I might start with the new battery ang go from there .I can sought out the battery and motor easy enough, but that wobble has got me stumped. I suppose just persisting with it will be the only solution!!
Thanks guys!!

I was having the same head wobble recently on my HB2 (after a few crashes). I took the main shaft out and looked at it, rolled it on a sheet of glass, it seemed fine. But I had a spare main shaft laying around so I put it in. Absolutely no wobble.
So I would guess your main shaft is bent.

Well i found out now that my fly bar is as bent as a bent thing. Thats a good start! My current main shaft seems to be fine to look at. However once put back into the heli chassis without the rotor head on it apears to spin off centre. I think I will just replace it.
thanks Rbiasi

after all that would anyone not recommend the honeybee? I was looking at version 3 on ebay, Trying to stay under $200 for a RTF heli. this isn't my first heli and i've had crash and repair experience.

well i am on my first heli. i have never flowen a thing in my life. I did do some research online and choose the hb2. however where i am from there is no shop that offers any micro helis and no sought og back up service at all. i couldnt comment on the toughness of the hb2 compared to others. i have replaced parts which warrant replacing if you saw the size of the crash i had.
however i have been on these forrums for the last month as part of my learnig how to fly. some issues that are apparent with the hb2 are.... an easy to bend(buckle) drive shaft.dodgy recievers.
poor quality skids(mine are fine though) It seems there alot of variations on what you will get in your kit depending on who you get it from.
good luck, 5 weeks and still cant hover ?

i think i will get an hb then... i've only flown 2-3 heli's one being my own. few year back my parents got me the fixed pitch hyperfly. the other two were ones at a hobby shop by me that had them set up in the field outside, so i think for the most part i'm going to try to keep the hb on the ground till i get good at the sim... then only on soft ground and surroundings for a while...
as for hovering... i read on hear someplace to decrease something for your tail motor... i forget what at the moment. apparently it changes speed to easily... this is only if your having the problem of it going to one side when you try to hover though...

Hey guys. My dad has a HB V2. It's a great maching, when set up properly, but I've never flown a stock one. Ours has the G10 CF chassi and HP/BB servos. We also got the direct drive tail rotor, and a new futaba 7CHP (but any decent one will fly it). It also has a CSM HH gyro, which works great. We've bounced the thing a bunch. Ground, concrete walls, what ever is available, lol. Had a problem getting it off the ground a while back (more than a foot). Tried motor, speed controler, but it turned out to be bad blades.
If you can afford some of these upgrades, you will have a great flying little FP heli...
Crashed it again today in the parking lot at the mall (love stat holidays, hate high winds lol) and broke the stab. bar for the control paddles. Thought we were sunk (the LHS was closed) but we cut down a bar from the training gear, and it fit perfectly. We were flying it in the apt. lobby in like an hour...
Have fun with it
