Default Need help clearing a prob............

Hello all, I have a question pertaining to tail-lock gyros. I was told by someone that you DO NOT trim the rudder with the main trim on the TX to get the heli "trimmed" out, instead, you make mechanical adjustments to get it right and use the sub-trims to correct it if its "pulling" to the right or left. Also, by using the sub-trim, wouldn't you have to re-adjust the tail rotor linkage at the blades? To get the proper pitch?? So help me out guys.............I'm frazzled..........

as long as all your mechanical parts for the linkage are all pretty well centered. you should be able to set the transmitter trim to 0, and the heading hold gyro will keep the heli from moving, if it does wander alittle you might have to turn up the gain on the gyro, if you set it too high though the tail will start wagging, most people usually set it until it starts to wag, and then turn it back just a hair.

so basically, my heli is not set-up right as far as the tail rotor is concerned. I've got the Hawk Pro and the instructions that comes with it leaves ALOT to be desired for a beginner heli pilot, as far as setting the linkages for the tail......I guess my sport wasn't setup right either cause I had to trim it a little as well...........well, time to look at everything again.....LOL.......thanks

Getting the tail dialed in perfectly can be done...but takes time. Not sure what you've got for gyro or transmitter, but if possible (while in a hover) you should be able to switch the gyro from HH mode to normal with your TX and see if the tail rotor needs more/less pitch. If thats not possible then I'd find a really smooth surface, throttle up (HH off) until your light on the skids and see which way needs adjusting.

Few guys I fly with (myself included) can turn our GY401's from HH to normal while in a hover and have the tail sit completely still. No trim or sub-trim needed.

I'm running the JR 410t gyro and using a 6102 radio. I set the heli up in normal mode on the gyro first, it hovered fine. No trim, or sub-trim, wasn't hunting....practically hands-off hover. I landed it and turned the HH on, after that, wanted to start turning to the right, not bad but enough that its getting on my nerves........I think it's my gyro gone bad.......whatcha think? thanks

The gyro should have an adjustment to limit servo travel... set the gyro to normal mode, move your rudder stick left/right, and adjust the travel limiter to get max throw while keeping your linkage from binding. If you need to recenter the total throw, do it mechanically. Once you've got the gyro setup to the max throw your linkage will allow, the gyro will take care of the rest in HH mode... there should be no drifting left or right, and no trim required.

The Futaba GY401 HH Gyro must be powered on in HH mode, with the heli perfectly stationary, for the HH mode to work at all... I'm guessing it's the same with your JR... read the directions and find out. If you power it up in rate mode, that's all you get... HH mode won't work...
