Default Super newbie question: what is 3D flight?

I keep seeing stuff talking about how such and such an aircraft is full "3D" or not quite 3D etc. What is 3D flight in the context of RC flying?

non 3D-usually four channel or lower in which throttle controls motor speed instead of pitch of blades
CH1-main motor speed/up/down
CH2-tail/swivil
CH3-forward/back
CH4-left/right

3D- usually 6/6+ channel in which throttle dosn't affect the motors just the pitch of the blades

CH1-main rotor pitich up/down
CH2-tail rotor swivel left/right
CH3-left/right
CH4-forward/backward
CH5-motor speed?
CH6-tail speed?

please fill in the blanks for me guys

no no it uses a regular controler the motor speed is auto but it still takes up a channel (i think) other wise it just revs to top speed.

"3D" has little to do with the number of channels, although it's true that 4-ch helis (fixed pitch) are incapable of 3D flying. many 5-ch helis (CP without remote gyro gain) can 3D but many 10+ channel helis (scale) cannot.

in the context of helis, 3D usually refers to aggressive aerobatics flown in a start-stop manner (you'd know it if you saw it) or in varying orientations (inverted, backawards, sideways, etc.). it can also refer to manouvers with 2+ axes of rotation, e.g. piroetting flip or "piroflip".

with fixed wing, 3D flight usually entails getting a plane to hover like a heli...not my thing but whatever floats your boat.
