RE: Need a first helicopter
I started with a blade cp, and they are wonderful heli's for the beginner (imo of corse). I think they are a pretty good deal too. I paid 209.99 and it has alot of good features. Read reviews on all the helis u want and decide from there.

RE: Need a first helicopter
The CX or one of the other coaxials[Lama,DF#5,XRB] would be a good choice for someone who's never flown before. These might not be as maneuverable as conventional helis but are more stable and fun to fly around the house.

cexal22
im in the same position as you are
but i want to start with a nitro or a full size brushless electric (lol yea prolly never gonna happen!)
ill check back here
btw the blade cp is a more intermidiate aircraft and the cx is just like sporty greg said for the first time flyer. I here the nitro helis are extremely hard to fly (my lhs guy said they are harder than planes and the hardest out there!)
but i have places to learn around me
good luck (ill need some luck too!!)

Lol- i have a small house. one thing i do have is a local school with a HUUUUGE soccer feild and a baseball feild at the end. I also have a clear street ande a *huge property.
And my house indoors is too small to fly any heli.
*= by huge i dont mean mansion, just a good amount of flying space. no not a gigantic backyard, a medum sized.

RE: Need a first helicopter
I have a Blade CX, a Blade CP and now a T-rex on order.
Skill-wise, almost everyone will quickly out-grow the Blade CX and will soon want more. Unless you are very creative, you will grow bored with the CX in less than 3 weeks.
Thus, I wouldn't recommend the CX for anyone with a limited budget and capacity to learn. I don't dismiss it completely however because of how you can use it to excite others about the hobby.
If you have disposable income and are building a fleet, then I can recommend the Blade CX from my personal experience because I put the little guy to good use in the classroom.
If you are short on funds and want a single helicopter for a year's worth of growth, then you will be better off choosing a more advanced model.
Of course, you will have to get yourself training gear and possibly a sim.
Hope that helps.

LMH corona, takes a licking and keeps on ticking. It was designed to be a durable first time trainer. I still have fun with mine 5 years later.

I'm scrolling through the RCUniverse recent email notifications in my inbox and I don't see much discussion on the LMH Corona.
This is what I mean by hype and margins overshadowing a potentially great model.
However, that kit seems to require assembly and I don't know if it is available RTF... thus complicating the purchase for a new heli owner.

RE: Need a first helicopter
I bought my honey bee from this guy
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEWEST-VERSION-H...QQcmdZViewItem
and I highly recommend it! $40 shipping, so it comes up to like 160usd plus whatever spares you may want to add in. I recommend getting 2 sets of blades at least!

RE: Need a first helicopter
You'll be flying the CX right out of the box with little trouble.
Get the heak sink and heat sink compound and an extra battery as soon as you can.
I found the training gear unnecessary.
The Blade CX thread here and on rcgroups is pretty thorough.
Good luck and don't stop reading about all brands and models.

RE: Need a first helicopter
Get the Blade CP (or a HB CP2, which ever you find cheapest or at ur LHS). Ive had a CP2 Since Christmas (two days less that 2 months), and i just reached the 30second mark. Ive only been in the air for that long once, so its a log difficult journy, but well worth it!

RE: Need a first helicopter
With all due respect to the so called Experts the Blade CX was a great choice for a noob because you will learn fast and it is a tough heli that will take allot of punishment and keep going and is cheap to repair.I wish it would have been around when I started this hobby because I would have had one although I have had one.I started with a sim and went to a T-rex good heli but it got expensive.I have had everything from the T-rex to a Hirobo Freya 60 Nitro and in between.I now have gotten rid of everything but my Draganflyer V Ti Pro and a Helimax rotofly that I fly in the house,my BCX was fun but after four months of flying it I passed it on to my Grandson I was one of the first to get one when it was released back a few months ago.Just stick with it and do not get discouraged when you crash and you will everybody does and if they say they don't then look for their nose to grow and call them Pinocchio because they are lying through their teeth. And as for the person that says the BCX is not even a Heli well all I can say is another Expert heard from..
As for the Blade CP I have had one of those also and it is the biggest piece of GARBAGE there is,I would not waste my money on it if I were you there are better built heli's out there. It is suppose to fly out of the box yet I spent three hours setting mine up to where it would hover half way decent, then I got tired of it and did what was best for it I threw it away in the garbage, yes I really put it in the trash.[:'(]Enjoy the hobby it is a kick but watch out it will get you in the wallet when you least expect it.[]

That's great I am glad you are having fun with it that is the most important step in learning because you will want to continue to improve and before you know it there will be no more crashes and you will be doing nose in hovering.GREAT JOB keep it up.

If the RC pilot isn't willing to do this... then the Blade CX is really the best place to start.
Faint praise? Maybe.

RE: Need a first helicopter
CXela22,
OK.. I'll give you a break. Some folks either drilled or needle burned a small hole in the port side of the canopy so that they could get the screw driver in there to turn the Mixture Pot(tentiometer) in small hour increments to correct for yaw.
I found the threads here very informative on the Blade CX, Blade CP (and now the T-rex) and actually answered all my questions. But I had to print everything out and spend time just reading it under a tree on my lunch breaks.
