Default Mode I flyer wants to fly Heli? Change Tx?

I've flown fixed-wing for 50 years, have a Lama and reversed the Tx to Mode I. Was this a good idea??

Well, most heli TX's are set up to "emulate" full size helis ... right hand controls cyclic (aileron and elevator) and the left hand controls the collective (pitch and power). The rudder is controlled with the feet but that's not to practical on the TX so rudder is placed on the only gimbal left (left stick-left/right movement). This configuration is Mode II.

Did you fly 50 years in mode I or mode II? Typically once you learn a mode it's difficult (but not impossible) to fly in other modes.

Try Mode I on a simulator. If you can fly mode I with loosing all control then you'll probably OK.

BTW, when you "reversed the Tx to Mode I", did you do a full blown reverse (ie change gimbal operation also)?

Good Luck,

Tx 4 rply. Originally flew reeds in the 50's, most mode I'ers did (ex. Japanese). Just rx my Hitec interface cord, so think working on sim is a good idea. Just between. you and me, I'd rather have throttle (up & dn) and rotate (r. & l.) on rt stick and pitch (forward & back) and drift (r. & l.) on the left. What do you think? (maybe you'd have to think mode I to answer this).
To rev. the tx. to I, you reverse the two (usually outside) pot wires and the spring and detent. B.
