Default rx and tx compatability?

Nooob question but does it matter if the rx has 9 channels and the tx only 6? I suspect not if they are from same company and same shift +/- but want to make sure. Thanks

They do not have to have same number of channels.

They do, if the radio is in PPM mode, as long as the shift is the same it doesn't matter.
