To start off with I am 34 and been in love with RC since a child and race nitro cars as a Teen. I bought a Walkera 36 4 years ago and after lots of crashes I spent a fortune and sold it all(I know Walkeras are no good) I just got the bug to try and fly again so I bought a electric trainer plane and several foamie planes and after several crashes Im getting the hang of it. I have the G4 sim and leaned towards the Helis again and just bought 2 Heli-max EZ for myself and younger son and a Axe CP. I am pretty good at the EZ but for some reason I am terrified to hover the CP more than a foot or so. What is my problem. I also bought the Walkera 4#3 mini and its a blast to fly although im not that good at it either. How do I overcome the fear of flying. The Helimax parts are high in cost so maybe thats the problem. Anyway thanks for your time

I just keep a bunch of parts in stock
. The best way to get comfortable is to practice as much as possible. Once you get good at a consistent hover your confidence will rise and you will want to try more difficult things like forward flight. You will also have to face the fact that you will crash, you can minimize the damage by cutting the throttle before impact and also you can use a training landing gear to get you started.

You have a habit of buying crap for helis, eh? Haha, I am just kidding- I would have gone with different birds myself...
Like Nitro said- you have just got to get accustomed to the fact that you are inevitably going to crash. Get used to the fact that with a few minutes of work, you will be up in the air again.

Well crap it may be but I bought them from Towers Scratch and dent and only paid $40 for each of the Axe EZ and $60 for the Axe CP-L that only had a damaged box So I think Its better than just crap LOL I have had 2 back surgeries this year from a head on collision (wasnt my fault and he had no insurance) so I like my cheap crap...lol I plan on a Trex but why crash a good Heli and really be upset. But anyway Im going to keep trying and keep crashing until I get the hang of it. I did order the Bell hiller rotor setup and a futaba headlock gyro for the CP and I have the esc for both motors from my planes so I will try this setup and maybe have better luck. Thanks

Keep flying- you will get over that feeling soon enough. I relate it to skating. When you go skating and you aren't a hockey player like me, you are scared crapless about falling- so you never push the envelope. Once you do fall down you say 'wow that isnt so bad.' You then push it more an more till you are comfortable with it. That is the best analogy I can think of.
Hey- can't argue with those prices. The HH gyro will really help you learn- hope you are looking forward to that.

I understand the skating thing. I live at the beach but have been to the rink when the college hockey is in town and gave up on that after the first session. I started riding dirtbikes with my sons last year and after crashing several times I finally cleared the doubles and it was the greatest feeling in the world. I couldnt walk for 3 days but it was worth it. although my accedent was right after that and I dont ride much anymore Im not going to let this crashing thing bother me. I can fix anything that gets broken and its only time and money butI am determined. I wish I was more like my kids and full throttle WOW OH it crashed and broke OH WELL daddy will fix it.
