You are right Buzz. We are Brazilian, so the organ that controls the rules of Model Aeronautics here is the Brazilian Confederation of Model Aeronautics (www.cobra.org.br). In its regiment there is no restriction on this activity. On the other hand, the AMA rules actually has this restriction.</p>

AMA does not allow rocket to leave the aircraft. You can use rocket motors to lift the aircraft. There used to be a rocket powered glider. It was lifted up by the rocket motor. You can use them as rocket assist take off too. The rule says the rocket motor must be kept on the aircraft.

Yet that is only at AMA sanctioned fields. AMA does not cover when flying out in the deserts where I fly.
