I'm a beginner in this area but flying is my dream. I wanna make my own helicopter from scratch, maybe it's to silly or crazy but I'm serious. Now I'm looking for information, does any one know a good reference?

A heli is a VERY complex machine that has to be balanced on ALL axis, not to mention all the other components that get into it...If you don't have a super strong anderstansing of the heli flight principles, a bunch of plans AND a complete metal machine shop then give it up. If you want to fly a heli, get the cheappes one and learn on it or if you want to ASSMBLE one get the Quick .50 or .60 (like i did) and you will get a bag-of-parts that you'll have to put together...that will teach you...

Why try to re-invent the wheel ( or heli as it is)?

Building one from scratch would cost you 10 times the price of a kit. If you want to fly helis, order a kit and put it together. If you can't afford a kit, look at a used heli and learn that way. If you can't afford to do that, work till you can. It takes money to keep a heli in the air. The hard truth is that helis wear parts out, and you will crash it learning more often than not. Parts are expensive, so to speak.

I see people from time to time come on with little to no experience saying they want all the info to build one from scratch, but have yet to see someone actually do it. They are not like planes where you can just slap some sticks together. There are many parts as stated above. Check into the kits. You will save a ton of money and even more time.

Buy a Kit, Besides how are you going to figure out the "main Rotor -to- Tail Rotor rotaion Ratio"

Do a google search and you will find many good references.

Why not? If you have time and the money, go for it. You may not understand everything from start, but you learn while doing it.

Sure you can buy all kind of kit and assemble one for fun. But none will be as good as you wanted, all have some sort of defect. They are made not just for the sake of helicopter, but as commodity to be sold to as many as possible for profit.

"main Rotor -to- Tail Rotor rotaion Ratio" Is that really so important? There are many ways to fly the machine vertically and keep it in stable hover and most without the benefit of a tail rotor. The Lama is a good example.

I wished I had time and resource to experiment with my own heli design, but am having too many other things to do.

When your first post is "How do I build a heli from scratch"; it reminds me of going to Hollywood and asking what blockbuster movie can I star in. I'm not saying you can't start at the top, but if you have what it takes, we should be asking YOU the questions.

I understand all the negativity about building your own helicopter. It is possible though!!. Your biggest challege will be the control over the main rotor. You might consider building one with a fixed pitch, that makes the mechs a lot easier to build. Maybe you can get your hands on an old "Kavan Alouette 2" for ideas. If you do decide to build it yourself, buy a lathe!!

Now that is a true work of art by someone who completely knows what he wants and can build it. I have a friend that makes scratch built steam and radial engines that work. Not something I would ever try! You are a true craftsman!
