Hi, im a first time rc heli owner, and ive read all the posts sayin a piccolo isn't a good heli to start with, but i got it anyway.
ive managed to get everything together, or so it looks. anyways, heres my problem. i get it turned on and all the servos work, i try and throttle up, i get some power, but when i try to get enough power to take off, main motor just cuts out and dies.. i got the little kit from www.hobby-lobby.com, and im wondering if ive got something wired wrong, or ive got a problem with the main motor. any help would be appricated, thanks!

Greetings, Electrics are not my Bag but I'm an electronic Tech so...
For the shutdown:
1) What is the voltage / Wattage / cell # rating on the speed control?
2) Did the speed control and motor come in the kit or did you get them seperate?
3) Does your Battery pack match the speed control for # of cells or Voltage?
4) Does the Motor Rating match the speed control rating?
5) It there any way you can attach a heat sink < cooling fins> to the speed control?
Possible shutdown / overload causes:
1) Pitch of the main blades set too high? This will cause the motor to work hard at low speed and draw to much current.
2) Drag in any rotating parts? Excess drag will cause more current draw.
3) Any added weight in the kit? Oversize batterys or motor can be heavier than the design allows. Any extra's added for any reason can make the bird too heavy. Weight is not your friend.
Good Luck.

lol, im starting to figure this one out, i had my first sucessful flight tonight, got about 6 inches off the ground, then it decided to tip over and crunch the linkage pretty bad. chalk it up to learning i guess.. the main reason i got a piccolo was so i can fly it indoors, because thats the main reason that i wanted one... well.. thanks for the help anyways.

Greetings, One thing I forgot, How many times has the battery been charged and properly discharged? It could have been dropping off voltage due to a need for Cycling. Some times batterys sit quite a while in stores, They can take several charge / discharge cycles to recover.
Perhaps you finally got a good charge !
Enjoy

Just wanted to ask if you might be interested in making a trade,I am looking for an indoor type heli. I have a glow 30 size , never flown,os 32 motor, starter, elect fuel pump, Metric allen wrenches, ball link pliers, pretty much everything you would need. If interested Email me. Thanks Jamie

Thanks flmgrip, didnt know that that was a wrong thing to do,I know now. About the heli, it is probably not something that you are interested in. It is a concept 30 DX. It is un-flown, has the OS 32 motor, wood blades, I have the field box, starter, fuel pump, and tools(ball-link pliers, allen wrenches, glo starter) Too much to list right now. I am going to get out of glow for the time being. I would like to make a trade for one of the elect helis. (Piccolo,Hornet) If not I still will make a deal with someboby to get them started. Thanks Jamie

The last post was great. If you can not get through it, call Horizon Technical Support toll free, 1-877-504-0233. Ask for Pete if he is available. They can help with Ikarus products.
