I have a hirobo shuttle older model with belt starter.
I couldnt get it started before but today I did get it going. I relized that I needed to stop the starter after a little while so the motor would start. Iguess im going it right now becouse it started. I hold it till it starts making a popping noise then i stop it a few times till the motor starts. I shut it off by plugging the muffler right?
I am totally new to nitro helicopters so any help will be great.
Is the main blades supposed to spin at all if the throttle is all the way down? Mine spins a bit faster then faster even with throttle down....mabey I need to adjust the carb? the servo is all the way down now.
thanx alot guys hope you can help.

No the blades should not spin with the engine at an idle. If they do then your idle is to high. Also it sounds like you have your throttle servo reversed. All the way down should be idle and all the way up full throttle. You should set the engine to idle with the throttle trim in the middle position, that way when you drop the trim to the bottom the engine will shut off. You shouldn't have to kill the engine by plugging the exaust with your finger.

That was my mistake about the throotle thing. i do have it setup right were all the way down is lowest throttle. But I guess I do need to lower the idle. Thanx for the info...but how do you shut the heli off?
also I have a throttle up switch that was broke when I got this....whats it for? I replaced it with a new switch but it doesnt work I dont think.

To get the engine to shut off. Adjust the idle with the trim tab in the middle. So when you bring the trim tab to the bottom, it will close the carb and kill the engine. The throttle hold switch is set so when you switch it on, the engine goes to idle. For practicing autos. I don't know what radio you are useing but in most you have to set the switch to be active or off.

If you don't know anything about helis, you really should find someone that know about helis to help you set it up right or your going to run into all kind of problems. It will save you a lot of headaches and money.

My mistake again. I fly helicopters already. I am capable of setting them up. I fly electrics now. I just have never added a motor to the concept. I have noone around me to help me anyways...thats why Im on here....But like I said I do fly helicopters just not nitro's till now.
Im just wondering more about that idle up switch. Thats the broken one..I accidentley said throttle up.....my bad again...
its the throttle up switch that I wonder what its for.
Thanx for your help (and your concerns) guys.

That switch is for inverted flight. You said you fly electrics. How long? What is your flying style? If you fly sport and have no intention of do inverted flight then don't worry about the idle up switch. How about a LHS, or do you get your parts online? I think for now it might be best if you stick with a basic set up to get used to the characteristics and power of the nito engine. Also can you auto good, because now you have the possibility of flame outs unlike the electric.

ouch....flame outs sounds bad........I only do hovering and small circuts so far. I like to keep it simple and that way my wallet doesnt need to come out all the time. I will lower the idle now....good to know about idle up switch. but what does it do....just increase idle or something so your engine doesnt spudder?
I will only hover for now. But the fly bar paddles are a bit different on this helicopter so i am not sure were the ,iddle will be but Ill find out soon enough.
thanx again for all the info on the nitro helicopters...youve been a great help...I am going out back to start her up now so we will see what happens and im sure there will be a post about my results.

When you get to that stage, you really should find some help, even if you have to drive for three hours, it's well worth it.

Maybe one of these guys live close to you? I'm sure they would be willing to give you hand setting up your heli, just send them an email.

Well no but thanx....the closest is about 4-5 hours away. I work too much to have that time to go. But I will ask again at the lhs to see if anyone knows anyone flying nitros.
