I ran my TT 39 last night for the first time. I ran it on a test stand, not in the heli. I like to run my engines on a test stand first, it's easier to work with them, easier to control heat while breaking in, and when you put it in the heli or plane you know where it likes the needles to be set at.

My first impression is: What a nice little engine, starts very easy, will idle so low you can practically count the RPMs, fit and finish appear to be real nice, and (with an airplane prop anyway) I couldn't hardly get this thing hot, I could run it for several minutes at about 3/4 turn above a rich two stroke and that sucker just refused to get hot. I know with a prop they wont get as hot, but, I've broke-in several airplane engines and they just don't compare to the heat dispensation ability of this thing.

I'll put another half gallon through it then put it on the heli.

It's going into a JR Venture 30.

Thanks for the info. I have been looking around for some quality information about the Thunder Tiger Engines. I have not been able to find anything bad about them. Everything I hear, is really good other than the occasional jibe about consistency. Actually, I SEE inconsistency everyday at the field in the way people handle and treat their engines.

I have seen so many Heli/Engine combos that use the Raptor and OS engine. Why? Because of recognition? Well, I am putting my money on the "Largest 2-stroke engine manufacturer in the world" and that is Thunder Tiger. They are awesome engines and you can't beat the value.

Default TT Engines

Teamerica,
I don't know how long you have been away from helis but you must not be familiar with their heli engine line. For the most part their engines have been pretty poor. When compared to the airplane engines one would think it was an entirely different engine manufacturer because the TT Pro series plank engines are gems!

The history is that in '98 when the Raptor was introduced the TT .36 quickly developed a reputation as having poor carburetion. As a matter of fact Raptor 30 owners were REAL quick to slap OS .32s in there because. Although, there was some owners that raved about how good theres were. So, quality control seemed to be sporadic.

Since the TT .36 & TT .46 days we have seen the TT .50, TT .70. and TT .90. The .50 seems to be a REAL winner. There are a few of them flying at our field in Sceadus and Raptors and after a few cases of fuel they seem to be performing flawlessly. The TT .70 is another good motor. They love to be run rich and fast as well as taking 3+ gallons of break-in time. But, once broken in they are good motors. I have yet to hear much about the TT .90.

So, as time continues I think the TT heli motors will continue to improve. But, the first engines pretty much made good paperweights.

Sawyer692,
Heli-Kraft.com has the TT .39 for $82.

Or Heli-hut.com can hook you up for $85 or $110 with TT .39 & and performance muffler.

Don't worry about warranties. These shops carry warranties just like your LHS.

I bought mine from Heli-Kraft about three weeks ago. When I bought this one he told me he had five left. I guess they are selling like hot Cakes.

I like my OS's, but I keep hearing good things about the TT's and Hirobo's new engine is supposed to be great as well. Only good things happening on R&D and QC-Nice

Looks like they are not good at ABC in general but have a hold on Ring engines . All the good tt engines 39,50,70,90 are ringed !

just a thought !
