hello all
I have a hirobo shuttle plus, i have become comfortable with hovering it nose in tail in, so i decided to try some forward flight, i then put it into a hard left(or right) turn and there comes a horrible flapping shuddering sound, like the rotors have become out of track, i couldn't explain it(and nor could any one at my club) the possible reasons that i have come with
[ul][*] there seems to be some free play on the swash plate, [*] not enough torque on the servos[*] dampers to Hard/soft ?
[/ul]
please help me guys, busting to get back to those hard turns
regards
James

it's called 'Blade Slap'. you'll always get it when you pull hard G's with the blades. nothing to worry about, even full scale birds do it, it's what makes a Huey a Huey

ok thanks,
It just seems a bit odd because i'll pull hard, and then go to to a hover and the blades stay out of track or in blade slap until i throttle down and let the head speed decrease, then it goes to normal again.
does that sound normal aswell?
thanks for your help

no that is an indication of your blade dampeners worn out, replace them. you'll still get blade slap with the high G maneuvers but tracking should never change.

i haven't owned a shuttle in quite a few years but never had a problem with the dampeners till they had quite a number of flights on them, say 40 or so flight hours or 200 flights. the shuttle wasn't the best suited for 3D flight so they last longer then they do on other aggressive flying birds. you may want to make sure your have them oiled so the feathering spindle is able to move in them. this is a VERY common problem with shuttles and often they'll hinder the free movement of the main grips. take the links off your main grips and make sure they are free to turn without any restriction from the dampeners if they are, then remove the spindle and oil it and the dampeners and then reassemble the head.

James ,
I had some JR venture 30 dampers lying around and tryed them after my original shuttleplus ones wore out ,worked very well much stiffer feel.. , i think you can buy K&S ones that work for shuttle also. . i also shelled out for a new swashplate because the stock one i got was crap. i learned to fly on a shuttleplus , and still fly it , its a nice heli. i also had the tracking problems with the shuttle at first. not as major as yours but i always found that tracking would be off every new day i went flying... got new metal swash , dampers and added all the neccesary bearing upgrades in the rotor head and the tracking probs went away and flew great, really tight. hope you get it sorted.

the use of woodie main blades is the most common reason for daily tracking issues, not to say your swash wasn't part of the problem as well but even on high quality birds (such as the X-Cell) woodies require tweaking of the tracking daily.

James,
The Jr Venture ones worked for me , its not really a recommendation , but they did work well. They were from the very first venturecp that came out. so i don;t know if they have changed at all. i doubt they would have. ask though. id hate to steer you wrong.
k&S is the brand name. Here they are at Ricks,
http://www.ronlund.com/Merchant2/mer...egory_Code=ZKS
you can buy them other places as well of course , try If you are in Singapore try Rotor.com they stock K&S parts too i think..
KC - Good point about the woods , im not really sure what it was most likel;y a combination of all the above things. I do remember after replacing the swash, dampers and getting rid of the bushings, that the tracking problem was a whole lot better though.
