Rebuilding a Cricket
Hiya,
I somehow got myself a GMP Cricket from EBAY and have decided to make lemonade out of a lemon.
Can someone please tell me where I can locate parts for this heli. I havent received it yet, so I dont know the condition.
I do know that it will need a motor .25 to .36? and at least a 4 channel radio.
Does the Cricket need a gyro? If yes, what type?
What type fuel should I use?
Where can I locate the specs for this heli?
Thanks
Ron

Funny you ask
I just sold one to fhuber on another board.
I would set it up with a gyro and a heli radio. It does take a .25 engie so use the fuel it needs or just use 10-15% heli fuel in it.
If you do a search on Yahoo or dogpile for Mr cricket you should find his web site if it is still working. If you go to rcshowroom you should be able to send a message to fhuber about the heli.

Do you have any heli experience? Crickets are fixed pitch helicopters and are quite hard to fly. This is because the throttle and cyclic response is very slow. In other words, when you command it to do something, there is a lag. What usually ends up happening is something like this, you give a command, and nothing happens, so you give a bigger command, then the commands hit, but are way to much. So now you try to counter it and nothing happens, so you give more, etc. it is always a few seconds behind you. It can be done, but current collective pitch heli's are much better. I tried to fly one a few years ago, it was not pretty. FWIW.

No I have no experience with heli's cept for some time on a R/C Aerochopper simulator.
I understand about the delayed reaction.. maybe between the heli's delay and my delay it will work out..lol
Thanks for the tip

Hey Ron,
Maybe I could talk you out of the Cricket and into something easier to fly??? <G> If not, here is the link for the Cricket Connection
http://www.crickethelicopters.com/index.html
Most people that have or had Crickets, use them for conversation or collection items. I still have mine, but I don't fly it. I do have some extra parts like canopies and stuff. Let me know what you need after you get it.
It uses any airplane style or heli style engine. (I have a car engine in mine with a large cooling fin head) You need a gyro. Any of the inexpensive piezo gyros will work. Good Luck

Thanks for the response.
I bought it before I had a chance to really research it.
Dealing with the BidSnipers on Ebay is getting out of hand.
But like I said, I like challenges..lol
It doesnt have a motor or radio that I know of. I hope it will be here Tuesday or Wednesday.
I will let you know when it gets here.
Thanks again

Rebuilding a Cricket
The Cricket arrived today and I have been piecing together what parts I can.
Need a .25 engine. the TT.36 motor mounts wont work due to the round crankcase offsetting the belt.
It looks like a linkage is missing for the main rotor, but I am not sure. It might be just the design.
Servos are no problem, but need a receiver and the engine.
