Default FM or PCM

I'm just trying to get an overall opinion on this... I'm a newbie and shopping for a radio and I was Reading in Ray's Authoritative Heli Manual and he was discussing PCM vs FM and how he was a little bit more biased towards FM due to minor problems giving you a glitch so that you can at least have a chance to find them where as PCM goes into a hold mode and somewhat compensates a "glitch" making it hard to even be aware that there is a problem... For those who have Ray... Pg 36 center of the page.
Can anyone explain any personal reasons why they would chose one or the other?
Thanks and Much Appreciation

I only fly with PCM and never had a problem to speak of.

Our airfield in about 11 miles out in the country. So far no problems with FM ..most uses PCM but some still use FM..But PCM-FM is a another can of worms.

If you were flying a gas heli I would use nothing but PCM due to ignition noise..

I know guys including myself who would not use pcm because It will go into failsafe mode and lock out your inputs from the transmitter if you should get any interference--I would rather take my chances with a few glitches and still have control from my transmitter....just my opinion.......joe

How about using FM to ensure your setup is reasonably glitch-free and then switching over to PCM?

Sounds like the best of both worlds to me.

One more thing digital servos work best with the higher resolution of a PCM (1024) than a FM receiver.

buy the most radio you can afford heli's come and go but the radio is yours for the most part and most of the good ones are switchable ppm - fm and pcm get what ya can afford and worry about the details later
