Default Where do you fly?

Hey everyone,
I was considering getting back into helicopters, but I'm at a loss for a place to fly. I live in Austin, Tx and I've searched the web for local clubs, airfields, anything. I have come up empty handed. I would hope to find a community to learn from and have fun. Anybody live in or know where to fly in Austin, Tx?

Thanks
-Eric

Default Austin Flying

Eric,
look here...
http://www.austinrc.org/ They fly @ Decker Lake (Near Bergstrom, I think)
There's also a field in Georgetown, but I don't know if there are any heli guys there. Probably a lot more around too!
I'm headded to Round Rock this weekend, and I saw a guy flying a heli @ a school there once last year. Just go to some hobby shops and ask around. If I get time this weekend, I plan to go loking myself, as I am down there quite a bit.
Good luck!
Doc

If you are in Austin you can't beat the guys at the ARCA field. I have been to several jet events there and they are super guys and very friendly. I think Curtis Youngblood is a member there as well.

Eric .. there is an informal group here that flies at two locations. During the week it's part of an old private airport. On the weekends there's a part of a local high school here that we have permission to use. Contact me and i'll get you the details. Also, ARCA is a great field, yes Curtis is a member and does fly/practice there from time to time. During the week, ARCA is sometimes totally empty !

There is a manmade lake at the end of my street, as part of the grounds there is a 400m round athletic track. I find the middle of this perfect.....I have also been to a club near me, but it is just soooo much more convenient to walk doen the street. Pity that I dont get any help there though.....just 12 year olds asking if they "can have a go..."

I fly at a RC field-friend has a very nice field on his farm (heli flier) and at times we go to a new Soccer field. But when we want some privacy, or not to get in the way of the guys flying planes we go to the other field....We once lost our field to a highway coming through and some friends with a farm was nice enough to offer their field to fly helis or planes either one. It has a huge runway and some pad area's set up for spot landing autos and newbie's to learn heli's to..
One direction though there a power line and I will not say who's hit it...not me...
