After replacing my clutch lining I can't crank my heli. Did I put the wrong side of the lining on the outside? Did burning up the lining mess up the clutch? Please help.

Ok, I know someone is going to say this is retarded but it works. I overspeeded my WC 61 in an Ergo 60. Crash wouldn't you know. So it burned out the clutch lining before I could get it stoppd. When I relined the clutch....I could not get the clutch fit correct. I suspected it distorted the clutch maybe a few thousanths. Sure enough. So I held it in my hand and just squeezed the clutch thinking I got nothing to loose. Guess what? That was about 18 gals of fuel ago. It just opened up slightly and I put it back. You might try the same thing. No out of balance...runs smooth and I saved about $45. Might not be the answer for you but it sure worked good for me.

Thanks but I see the problem now. Order a new clutch and bell which has more clearence than my old one after replacing the lining. The lining must be too thick! I'll try some fine sandpaper on the lining and see if that works.

Many times (most times) when you burn out a clutch lining the clutch shoes expand to fill in the gap as the lining disappears and distort so that they do not return to the same size the clutch was originally. If you bend the clutch shoes back in, it will fit and might work for a while BUT in many cases the the heat of burning the lining out causes the shoes to harden (or soften, I forget which) and when you bend them in to get them to fit and then they expand back out to engage the clutch, the shoes break off, I had that happen on several Shuttle clutchs. In my MA clutchs, if the shoes are blue from heat, the clutch gets replaced.

I just make sure the lining is a good fit and then epoxy it in. I rough up the lining and the inside of the clutch bell to make sure I get a good bond.
