Default Green Loctite question

Hello,

I need to attach a pinion to a shaft on my T-Rex 450 ( fot the tail drive pulley). I couldn't find the Loctite brand but I found some Permatex brand. However, there was 3 formulas availlable and I am not sure which one I can use. I bought the "Sleeve retainer" formula. Will this work??

Or could regular red Loctite be used as well???

Thank you!

Green Loctite is for pinion to shaft application. It will take a pinion puller to get it off. When mounting the pinion, don't move to slow cause it will fuse to the shaft rather quickly. Be careful not to get any on the bearing.

Sleeve retainer works perfectly for those who have problems keeping muffler bolts on the glows. We've gone over that quite a bit in other forums. Regular threadlockers are not that great when used around heat. Many use loctite and even certain types of Permatex and when it gets hot, it liquifies and the bolt comes out. Just because the temp rating on the stuff may say it should work, sometimes it doesn't. That sleeve/bearing retainer works. I had a pair of bolts on my Jett 90 muffler that came out after to flights for months and a screwd around with al of it until a guy recommended the sleeve retainer. Has not come out in two years.

Ok, but how hard is it to get the sleeve retainer off if you want it off? I'm putting a new pinion on right away too and would be interested.

After some research I found that it could work, but the reason green Loctite 290 is so good for shaft-pinions is because it is so thin. Sleeve retainer is a bit thicker and because of the tight fit between the shaft and pinion it might not be the best stuff ti use.

If you put that stuff on with locktite you'd better own a pinion puller

You dont want to use red, you'll never get it apart.
