Default Hirobo flat bed mechanics?

Wish I could give you more than advice, but I think you will have trouble as those flat beds were only made back in the 70-80 era and I doubt that there are any parts around other than those that can be had by posting for whole birds to use as parts.I would imagine that it would be easier and better to just use the fuse and put it around a modern day mechanics , as those flat beds usually had heating problems in the gearbox as well as the engine and just weren't geared right to fly good.

Good luck
Larry

Default Mechanics

Hi Larry.
Thanks for the input, you say that they had overheating problems
on the gearbox as well as the engine,I just wonder if I would get that in the UK as the normal upper temp here is around 14 to 20degs C.,but yes it would probly be better to put mod mechs in her,any sugestions as to what type? as the fuz is very narrow.

I was going to convert the mechs into e:ccpm with a modern head ,but I would like more info before I do that,
I would love to build I fly her how she was when it was first built.

The fuz is in perfect condition (I will do some pics over the weekend)
I find the info that you guys give is of great value SO
COME ON GUYS MORE HELP AN ADVISE PLEASE.

THANKS ROY.

The lesser temp might help ,but I think the problem was in the plastic case housing the input bearing from the engine. The engine would get so hot that it would transfer the heat into the gear box bearing and then distort the plastic housing which would then allow the gears to misalign and strip. They made an upgrade out of aluminum that did help.If you have all the parts I would try it and maybe if you don't run the engine to lean and to long at a time it might last.I would also try to build a fan housing and maybe install an extra electric computer type fan to make the cooling exit the fuse as most of them just blew back over the engine and right up into the front of the fuse and then it recirculated in the fuse making things really hot.

If I was to put in a modern mechnics ,it would probably be the xcell type as they are pretty easy to mount in to about anthing and if the stacked frame version is to wide then maybe the older bent frame or the new fury type would be narrow enough.

It would be neat to fly it as is ,for demo purposes at funflys and such.I have an old Dubro 505 that I am working on and would like to do the same .So as to show the youngins where we all came from.

Good luck and hope to see some fuse pix.

Keep em coming ,it looks like some one really put some time into that fuse.
Good luck in getting it in the air.

Hi Steve.
Thanks for the info,I have a load of spares for it ,thanks.
The info I was looking for was about the cooling in particular, any info on that would be a great help.
The head, well I am fitting a modern one (they have much better control).
Anyone know witch cobra it is from the pics.
Thanks again Steve.

Default Hirobo flat bed mechanics?

u need a shroud that separates above and below the frames (i have one built from thin ply) u can cut and shut a suitable 60 size one or make a plug and do up a glass one (my choice ) instead of ending the shroud u must take it past the cylinder and head then make a 90 deg bend to channel the hot air out of the fuze ,a piece of piss really , and an aircraft head was all that was used in the early ones ,
