Default 3MM Ball Link Question

Ok, I know I ask a lot of questions but I AM trying to learn.

On the UL, i got 6 3MM ball links that look like the 1st picture. They are perfect for fitting between the dual control horns (2 Ail, 2 Ele).

they seem weird for using on the servo arm, which is what they have for the servo end of the flap and aileron. (second picture)

I have only used 4-40 in the past. Do all 3MM ball links have these weird little metal spacers sticking out and used on the servo end?

thanks in advance, and NO LAUGHING!! please

joe

I haven't seen any other 3mm ball-links with those stand-offs. I just picked up some 3mm dubro ball link ends from the LHS.

Thanks for the response. do you think they would be any issue using them on the servo arm? seems weird.

Joe:

those flanges are there to:

1) ensure there is enough contact area between the ball part and the arm surface so that the ball does not become loose and rotate on the screw wearing the screw down.

2) to ensure the plastic link wears evenly

3) to avoid the plastic link from binding with the servo arm

got it. so, the standoffs function like the little inverted cones that come with other ball links (dubro) so that the ball stands off from the arm.

now that you discribe it, i like the idea even better.

off to dinner, then thinking about packing up for tomorrow, driving to Winamac and playing hookey for a few hours.
