Just been checking on three UF we have coming by air. Seems the air shipping people are playing games, one is at UK customs, one has been held in Thailand and one was returned [] Seems boxes close to the limit have various luck!

Its been quite a difficult one for CARF to achieve with the painting in the mould process, in fact even a couple of weeks ago it was looking like it might not be possible but its been done. Top credit to them!

People often worry about blue aircraft for that reason but in reality this sort of scheme stands out well. It is very similar to the Aggressor scheme on our Boomerang Torus and I have never had any trouble seeing that. In fact if you look at the bits of the aircraft against the blue sky in the pictures I posted above - that's exactly how it looks in the blue sky. The model, even in blue, always has a deeper contrast.

That looks NICE! Are Boomerang & CARF somehow connected?

That camo scheme looks great on the UF. I always thought the Green/white & Red/yellow schemes were just awful! This one changes the whole look of the ship! Would be even better if they matched the canopy frame to it as well.

Not as such, but Boomerang (UK) and CARF work together on some projects and we do also sell CARF models to complement our own range of jets. A bit of joined up thinking often helps serve the customers best !

I destroyed an AT Gemany leg today. Anyone know if Behotec Trailing leg NL140-VL fits into UF without modification? Can I use the wheels and brakes that came with the AT kit?

Interesting

You would still have to trim the wing to clear the front knuckle. Wheels, do you mean the Intairco wheels that are supplied in the CARF gear set? You can get them to fit filing the end of the leg width.

I have CARF's touchup paint (white, green, blue) and hardener. I know the color to hardener ratio is 4:1, but I assume I also need thinner. Has anybody used this paint and can tell me what type of thinner and what ratio? Any other tips?

Gus

The black canopy does look a lil out of place to me, but the scheme's so hot it more than makes up for it. Is it black because it's too difficult to do the scheme all around? Has anyone tried replacing the black with a similar blue? Bet it'll be a winner either way

Yeah I was thinking of the CARF wheels. Maybe I'm just ordering new AT-leg then. Sending you a PM.

Gus,

Yes you do need to thin for any spray application. Ratio depends on the gun you are using and the area / coverage you want to get. For example for airbrush over small areas I tend to thin even as much as 1:1 and build up the coats, but for a bigger area / bigger spray gun/ nozzle don't tend to thin quite as much. Don't be afraid to experiment. I always spray on to a test card first to check the paint and air flow.

Thinners - standard automotive thinners works for me. I used maxmeyer nitrocellulose thinners last time I used CARF paints. I don't claim to be any sort of expert - this just works for me [8D]

The new sport scheme is now on the CARF website. I was interested to see what price rise would accompany the new scheme but was pleasantly surprised to see that it is the same price as the old sport scheme.

A little surprised to see that they are aiming for a single 'stock' colour but it looks like there are a choice of 3 at the moment, all at the same price.

Darren

The Military scheme is more. Since we started working on it last year it proved difficult to paint.
On all the new models/schemes (Extra 330C inc) the intention is one colour with others a colour swap. We have seen a pattern of ordering already and having unpopular colours sitting in stock is not good when production is working hard to keep up with things.

Dave,

I fully understand that the military scheme would be more expensive. That looks a nightmare to paint [X(] I can also understand why CARF would want to limit stock in local warehouses to schemes that will sell quickly.

I don't know how many kits they paint in one go (without cleaning the paint guns etc) but for those that are prepared to wait for a model to be built, it would be nice for colour swaps (using the standard paints that CARF have on the shelf) to be a no cost option. If this isn't possible then there could be 3 levels; a stock colour at the local warehouse available for immediate delivery, a limited selection of colours in Thailand for those that want something different and are prepared to wait (at no extra cost), and pre-order/custom colours for those that want something a bit different.

This isn't a criticism of the current CARF policy but, whatever colour proves to be most popular, people tend not to want to buy an identical model to their clubmates. More choice equals more sales
