C-ARF Flash Wing Fuel Tank
Need some help from Flash owners...
Please advise on a quick disconnect fitting for the wing wing tank. Idon't want to use a Festo a fitting or SMC (unless that is the last resort). Any suggestionswould be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Rick

What do you have against the Festo joiner? my Flash still has the original 6-6 quick release unit after what is over 1000+ cycles conecting and disconecting...never leaked

RE: C-ARF Flash Wing Fuel Tank
Dave,
Well I'm not necessarily against Festo fittings, use them all the time. The problem that I had was when I was refueling the last time (first flight for the day) I did a good job of filling up the aircraft with Jet -A. Gee, does that stuff make a real mess. Thank goodness for K2R!! The problem stemed from the fact that when I connected the fuel lines together, I somehow cut the o-ring on the connector (this was a SMC).
The other concern that I had was that I really don't like to use those fittings on the suction side (even though I have not had a problem with this before).... maybe it is just me and I should just get on with the program and use the Festo...

The Festo connector seems to stay good as long as you fully depress the release ring each time you remove the tube. I'm normally with you on the no joints on the suction side, but sometimes you have little choice. Even my early feelings on this said that it's not the main tank, it's just a supplier tank, so as long as there is a reasonable seal it will pull the fuel through and keep the main tank topped up. Thing is my two Flashes and around eight more with friends have never had a problem with the designed set-up.
People use tygon tube in festos (which is a real no no!) and get away with it!!
Go with the CARF set-up, you know they have tested it pretty well even before it hits the market with some critical pilots testing the stuff first...

Call Colder Products Co. at 1-800 444 2474 and ask them who sells there products in your area.
They have a disconnect that works greaty.
Thease are the numbers that I use PLCD 130-04 ferruless Polytube Fitting PTF and PLCD 210-06 Ferrules Polytube Fitting.
These fittings have valves and when you disconnect them they shutoff.
Colder may or may not sell them direct too you.
I know what you mean about the Festo leaking, these don't.

RE: C-ARF Flash Wing Fuel Tank
What makes the festo effective in this setup is the fact that it flows fuel with almost no suction required. there is no restrictions to overcome, which is needed when pulling liquid via vaccuum pressure. Low restriction, high flow. I dont necessarily like the setup either, but it certainly does work so far. I put my festo up closer to the tank, so I could easily check it during the course of normal flying. My umbilical comes up all the way into the main area, so I can just slap the wing on and then hook everything up when the jet is upright. that helped with my comfort level..

GooseF22,
That is a good idea with the long lead on the fuel line. I have resided to the fact that I will continue to use the Festo connector.
Thanks
Rick
