Hi All, just about to order my engines. now getting concerned about the jetcat 100's having enough push ? does anyone recomment a larger turbine like a Jetcentral Cheetah or will the 100's work with all the ordinance hanging off her.

Sounds like to me you just dont have enough turbine
ORIGINAL: MNModels

Rowdy,

Just returned from a Jet weekend. I can tell you that the smaller FEJ A10 is heavier than SM A10. Both did not have any ordinance.

Further bad news, after 3 long take off runs the FEJ A10 failed to take off. On the last attempt it went vertical up when throttle was closed at the end of 100m and vertical down! Structural damage did occur.

Nothing wrong with the pilot, as he is one of the most experienced pilots.

For what i have seen - the FEJ A10 does not fly! There is something major wrong with the design!

I had 5 successfull flight with 2 x K80's on my Skymaster A10. It rotates in 50M and land in 50M!

My 65lb MIBO A-10, inculding a full ordnance load, flies great with P-120's set to 23lbs thrust, about the same as P-100's. Chuck Storrie flies his MIBO A-10 with 20lb thrust Rabbits. Seems like the smaller version A-10's should fly fine with that amount of power.

Snobird,

It would depend of how you want to fly the A10. If you want to fly like Ali (amazing how he can fly the mibo A10) then i suggest you go with p120's. But bigger turbines means more nose weight for CG and more fuel for fun. For normal and scale flying doing some slow rolls and some loops, the p100's should be perfect.

The 8kg's with no ordinance make A10 just right speed and power for my liking. I will see what happen if i add the ordinance...

Likai also flew with p160! I think this too much for SM A10.

My FEJ fly's, just needs the CG moved back a bit. Not pretty where the factory cg is.

Glad to see another A10 build, looks good. I couldnt get the fans off to paint the ply I'll have another look.

This week I'm making the final push so Ali can get this flying soon. Today the wings have been completed. Inside the wheel pod painted, slats installed, doors fine tuned and the paint wash completed.

Some photos of the completed wing...

oh yeah.........to all the A10 builders. If you install the aileron servo so the horn is closest to the root you can cover the linkage completely with the pylon. Unfortunately I didn't get the pylons until late in the build so couldn't do this but it would look better concealed.

Hi Gonzalo

Yes it is balanced per factory recommendations but I still have a gut feeling its on the tail heavy side as the way it behaves with the old push the tail down and see how quickly the nose falls doesn't fill me with the joys of spring. Its not very scientific but over the years I've found it gives a good feel as to where the CG is while measuring it the old fashioned way too. I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't need a few lbs more in the nose once Ali gets his hands on it. As for the radio set up I'll leave Ali to give his thoughts after the first few flights which I'm hoping to be at if I'm lucky with my schedule.

Bear in mind if you put heavier turbines in than the Merlin 140's then more nose weight will be required so expect closer to 57-59 lbs depending exactly what turbines you go for.

Cheers

Alex

Hi, Alex

Sounds good about the weight, the pylons with ordinances are almost 4kg,

Great Job...

Thanks Anton, I didn't realise the ordnance weighed that much.

Today was a little slow progress wise but managed to paint the inside lips of the nacelles to match the paint work. I also painted the under side of the slats as at some angles you caught glimpses of white gel coat which was starting to bug me. The airframe had a going over touching up spots here and there and I made a start detailing the ordnance. Ralle from 'Tailormade' sent me a very nice and comprehensive set of decals for the ordnance which is really enhancing the whole look of the model. I would recommend getting a set to anyone who's building this as you wont be disappointed and the extra effort is worth it.

Alex,

That really finishes things off - especially the paint inside the nacelles.

That's a lot of decals!! Waterside or dry?

Cheers
