Default E Flight HABU 32- P-20SE Build thread+Videos*

Big Thanks to Horizon Hobby I have my Habu 32. I was supposed to get it late last year, but that's how some things pan out. Plus i'm in the middle of my Vampire build, running a business, family etc!
The build will use the E Flight electric retracts, another P-20SE plus an install package I have had ready for a little while now.
My set up uses a different approach to Marc S, total fuel is 22oz which is enough for 6 1/2-7 minutes of the sort of flying I expect to enjoy with it.
I'm using a mix of JR 331 and 361/362 Digital (different countries different numbers) Powerbox Digi Switch, 2s Li-Po 1600mAh, JR DSM-2 921 Rx.
I've spent a little time checking my pre arrival guesses and so far everything looks to have worked out perfectly (love it when a plan comes together)
Pictures of some detail asked about by my "group" more follows, after I do a little tidy on the "bomb" workshop.

Some of the detail. All the spike nuts are in and on this one clear threaded. The hatch covers have the film around the edge! not cut off on the edge to speed up covering.
The canopy fit is great! Paint good, everything hinged. All the horns need attaching, though slots are cut, they need the "burn" cleaning out.

Will you be flying from a grass strip with this model? Would encourage those of us who don't have regular access to tarmac.

Dave, If you don't mind, whats the distance inside the mounting rails of the turbine area?? Just wondering what all would or could go in there. Thanks and looking good on that set-up!!! Roy

JF. Yep.

Roy, stock its a little under 3 3/8" 85mm. It needs spacers to mount the P-20. These will form part of my tail pipe mount.
If your out and about the rails are about the width of a Morgan Stanley CC!

Roy

MMmm Yes it would possibly fit, but it's not going to be light! I wouldn't go that route...wing fixing is not designed for that weight or potential speed. You would use air to start as there is no easy spinner nut access.

Nice...
I'm doing the same on my. Small bubble trap tank and 24 oz tank should be plenty of fuel.
I do the upgrade E-Flite retract to fit with my small trailing struts and tiny wheels/brake. AMA require...[:@]
My kit won't get here on time for Florida Jets. But be ready for Ca-Jets.

I decided that as all the control horns need fitting and I wanted to use aeropoxy/hysol and not 5min epoxy as stated in the manual, I'd get that done early.
The wood is lazer cut for the slots, this burns the wood-this needs cleaning off for a good bond. Also the film should be trimmed away on the surface, the film is removed with a hot blade and this leaves a "burr" of plastic, plus the horn has ears that sit on the surface.

Just time between orders to coat the wood in ZAP 40 resin. Wood mounts for Li-Po cleaned out fully.

Hi Dave, thanks for doing a proper build thread for the new Habu. Hope to get mine soon, however it will be electric first time around. Ken

Ken

I think it will make larger EDF more popular, I have another customer today ask for a second one with EDF since he has 6s 5000 packs from another model. This is where people will give it a try!

Steve

Yes, there other parts inc which we will add when it's put on the site tonight.

Ok.

The flap and aileron horns are the same, this means at decent flap angles the clevis actuation point is nearly on the hinge line (would be with 90 degree flap!) This means poor mechanical advantage, so just as I was going to fit them I filed the flap horn like this to angle it back more. This will give me a good boot of possible flap.

Elevator horn and wing horns in. Tape is pulled away before the hysol goes off.

Decided that the wheels are too small, so pulled the abs liner out and trimmed the wing skin. The ply rib needs just a tiny trim and it's perfect. I have found some pots that will work as liners...but think I'll seal and go with them open

Ken, sorry for not following through with my original build thread, which I guess you may have been referring to, unfortunately I was asked not to continue to do it by higher authorities. At the time the airframe was not proven for turbine use so before it had been tested information needed to be kept low key.
I as you may be aware do not make a habit of stopping build threads half way through, I will always try to give the best account of the builds I undertake. Apologies and good to see Dave running through it now, showing the qualities of this super little jet.

Just to follow up on Marcs Post above.
We were asked not to continue with the build thread of the turbine Habu, as Horizon Hobbies had granted the exclusive rights to coverage of the first Habu 32 to a U.S Magazine. There was concern that a build thread may in some way unsettle that agreement.
Regards Al

2" main wheel fitted.
Following my normal practice of proving on one, I'll now do the other wing! Then I need to see how this affects the nose.
The wood plate and mounting system in the nose limits the wheel size and set-up.

Guys, I may have missed it but what are y'all using for wheels and brakes? I believe the AMA requires the use of them here in the states. Something that isn't too heavy. Me thinks maybe the MPI aluminum wheels and brakes that Tam sells? I had them on a 1/12 F-16 so I think they would work well??

Thx

It's on www.motorsandrotors.com. You can get MAP products as it's Canadian, so you could buy just a pipe and possibly main tank saving even more $.

Unfortunately we won't be selling our kit to the US, as our company insurance excludes it. We have never sold very much into the US, many of our product range (miniature aircraft USA choppers, BVM products etc) come from the US and many other European items are covered by US dealers.

In Europe we don't have the same rule. Tams or possibly Sepac wheels are brakes might work for you.
