A couple pics for today. The model assembled again with the strake on as well as the pitot tube (both removable). The fin cap on the stab is just resting in place.
Also was playing around with the D4S After burner ring. Should work very well. The picture makes it look like individual lights, but to the eye it does look like a full circle.
This thing is now officially the LONGEST model I've ever built! Just over 100" long!

I was going to take a few pics to show the internals as they stand right now, including the drag chute operating mechanism, but that was too cumbersome. So I took a quick video clip.....it's a little rough as I was holding the camera and trying to talk etc. Anyway, hopefully you get the idea.

Well, it took less than 2 months to get togther and in the air. Thanks to all the valuable input from past owners on this site!!
I still need to put the finish on it and detail it out, but it does fly. Weighs just under 21lbs with 4 lbs of lipos on board. Here's a few pics and video from today's maiden flight.
Thanks again, Hans, Stig, TomP, etc etc!!

Dang pesky flies. Kept hearing one buzz around the camera while you were filming the beautiful clouds. Seriously, nice job. You will enjoy this jet very much as I did mine. It will slow down much more than you would expect for landing. Have fun!

Thanks guys! I'm looking forward to flying it some more and getting used to looking at it in the air and slowing it down more. First flight jitters made me keep the speed up. I still am astonished it flys so well on such a small wing.
Tom, you're right that it should slow down a lot more. Stig's youtube video from a few years ago shows nicely how slow it can land.
I shot Philip a note last night and he said the same thing:
"Congrats on your maiden F-104 flight. The video is of poor quality but I can clearly see that you were afraid to slow her down on landing. She can fly a lot slower and 21 lbs is definitely not excessive. A fueled turbine model would weigh more!"
I'll post more video after I get it dialed in and in it's final finish. Thanks again for everyone's generous input with thier experience.

BIG THUMBS UP TO DAN GILL AT DETAILS4SCALE!!
I had 3 bulbs burn out on my D4S AB ring, and no questions asked he repaired it. I sent it on a thursday and had it back the following tuesday. Now that's service!!
Now I need to get the finish on this thing! [8D]
