Default newbe question on propane

Is it necessary to use Coleman Powermax ? Can I use normal Coleman propane fuel used for stoves etc which are found almost anywhere? Tks

You cannot use normal coleman propane, the pressure is too high for the onboard starting gas hardware.

I am not sure about other manufacturer's products.

Default newbe question on propane

I have a Sim Jet 1700 and I use propane straight out of the big green coleman bottle. I do not use Powermaxx. Wether or not I am supposed to use this propane I do not know, but it works great!

On all SimJets, coleman propane is just fine!

My brand is better then your brand You two play nice. Anyway Todd we chatted about this before and my position still is that straight propane in warm tempatures still sits in a tank at around 200psi that was designed for a max of about 100 to 150 psi. This holds true for any brand. The blowing out of the lines is a function of the tubing and the connectors. This also holds true for any brand. For an outboard system I think propane would be the berries and they make regulators that would work as well. So I have to ask exaustgas what he used to hook up a regular propane tank to the small tubing. Bkf

Good points ken, to be honest I dont use the onboard propane very often. Although, I never had any problems starting off of the tank. I just find I dont waste as much propane by starting off the can , guess it's just hard for me to get used to all this fancy onboard stuff . But yes Matt, It will start on propane off the onboard system, pressure does not get too high.

Default its just a safety issue

JetCATs start fine on propane as well, it is just that under certain circumstances, using ON BOARD starting, the off the shelf lines, fittings and tanks we use cannot take the pressure, and they rupture releasing a lot pf propane.

Not fun........we have been using the powermax mixed gas since early 1999, no problems
