RE: Enlarged Zirioli Turbinator 125% size
Ron, Will you be cutting the foam at work or home? Let me know if I can be of help, or just come over and hang out. I've been meaning to stop by and see Jan but I've been holding off until I know she's ready for visitors. I'm done traveling for the season, just 9 to 5ing it in the office until Febuary.

Put the formers on one crutch this morning before leaving for work. I didn't get home until late yesterday. Had to stay late for work. Put in the second set of bulkheads this morning and took some shots before I head off today.

Bob doubled up on the nose gear formers for us so be sure you laminate them before you install them. Since they are now 1/4 thick leave enough room on the truss cross pieces to slip them in between the sides. Mine went in fine but since the cross brace is not critical in it's exact location cheat a little on the opening to be sure you can side them in. I'll show a picture tonight on the area that I'm talking about.

Looking good, Ron! Thanks for posting your progress.
It's been so long since I built anything out of sticks, that I forgot that I need to get something to build on. My current work table is not pin friendly. I received all my sticks and sheets yesterday so I should be able to start as soon as I get my current project out of the way.

I'm cutting my own cores. I can ask Troy Lawicki about cutting ones for the std size one if you like for a price. He has a business making composite sailplane kits and has a cnc foam cutter at his home.

Troy will cut cores for anything. I just have to set him up with the cut files so he can price them for the 44. I'll Pm you with some basic questions for the file and we'll go from there.

I spoke to Nicky today and he is starting on the canopy plug soon for us. We estimate that the pricing will be about $50 for the canopies since they are so large, they are 27 inches long and 8 inches wide and about 5-6 inches tall. Installed the first of the fuse floors after dinner, I had to make the first adjustment to the parts. Since we doubled up on the nose gear bulkheads you will have to open up the four slots in the middle of the front floor by about 1/16th and I had to remove about 1/4 inch from the front of it. You will have these issues when plans get blown up as printers are not perfect with the scaling in width to length. Not a big deal just get out the band saw and trim it back. took all of 5 minutes to get the fit I wanted. Your plans might be slightly different so I would wait and see before I have Bob change the file.

Ok the techno guys at work have talked me into getting skype since I am getting a "IPAD" for the Spektrum TM to display on at the field.Once I figure it out I will set it up in the shop so guys can see real time. Blame Troy Lawicki for this idea. We are trying to get Nick Ziroli to do it as well since he is up here working for me until the 23rd of Dec. LOL

Sent paypal to limey Bob this morning so my Ubernator will be on it's way soon. I'll have to prioritize it's construction since it's going to be too big to fit on my TV trailer. I built a big part of my Reaction on the road but that was as big as our work bench space allowed. Once the racing season starts my build time drops dramatically unless it's a smaller plane. I found out a few years ago when working on the road the best place to sand balsa is in a hotel bathroom, what ever dust the fan misses you can easily wash down the tub drain. Necessity is the mother of invention!
Ron, how is Jan doing?

Bob, Jan is getting back to the old Jan. LOL. We didn't get any calls from the Dr after her sonigram last week so no calls was good news. She has to wait until the end of the month for her stress test to see how much damage was done during the two heart attacks that happened in the hospital once we got her there back in Nov. Hope we get some good weather this weekend so I can go hunting for my battery at the field on Sunday morning.
Jimmy I put your floors in tonight as well just ran out of battery taking pictures.
Bob's working up a price for another big plane for us; a 105" "Goldberg Tiger" for a G-62! That's 150% of the std Tiger 60. I"m doing mine with retracts like my Electric Tiger 60.

Jimmy, I could do "Electrisical " but then it would cost me 30K as well for the batteries. LOL. The build will slow down a little now as I need to sand the structure to fit the sides on next. Couldn't sleep again. I don't know how you do the over night schedule . The late night Monday has me all screwed up sleep wise this week.

Ok, now $850 later. I have the Ipad up and running and now have a Skype account and will take the IPad into the shop when I am building so guys can see the progress real time as Troy says; but will still post pictures of the progress. I just took at picture of he shop and tried to uplaod it from the Ipad. doesn't look like I can do that so we will have to go old school and load them from the camera to the PC and then to the site. lol

RE: Enlarged Zirioli Turbinator 125% size
Ok so we hit the a small snag in the plan so to speak. Bob and I are working it out by email and phone calls. Since we are up sizing the plane and some of you might put in even more power than a P-120 size engine Bob doubled up on the nose gear and turbine mount formers for us. We have yet to figure out where things went wrong but from what we call tell my F-10 and F-11 formers are cut from the wrong wood and the Birch versions are both undersized by enough that that alone would make them not usable. So it is clear for everyone; Bob told me is that both of the F-10 formers should be lite ply and both the F-11 formers should be Birch ply and mine are one of each type and the lite ply ones fit perfectlly and the birch ones are way small. Bob is at a meeting right now and I just sent these pictures to him for his reference. He and I will sort it out and Bob is going to replace anything that was cut wrong for any of you that have gotten kits already as it may be just my set. Check your kit and see if the F-10 and F-11 bulkheads match each other when you overlay them and that they are of the correct wood type.

Just got home and saw this email from Bob:
Ron, thanks, the plan was to one out of birch and one out of lite for F-10 and F-11.
I found the error, and will correct it.
will send birch parts ASAP.
Regards
Bob
I am sure that everyone will get new F10 and F11 birch formers. More pictures this weekend of the progress coming.

RE: Enlarged Zirioli Turbinator 125% size
I was able to get the fuse side glued on the crutch and from F1 to F9 tonight. Ran out of clamps so the top side from f-6 back is just clamped in place to keep things straight while the bottom side is drying overnight. I traced the bulkhead locations onto the sides and then applied a liberal amount of Titebond to all of the contacting surfaces. Got a little messy because of the glue running down the one side while I was working on the other side; just had to wipe off the surface to keep it looking nice. Some of you may want to clamp it first and apply a fillet of Hysol on one side and then back fill it with medium Ca and then another fillet on the other side of Hysol once the first side is cured. Your preference is the way to go. I like to use a wood glue that will soak into the plywood. Hysol is a great adhesive but does not soak into the wood like Titebond does. You will need a lot of clamps as you can see in the pics. I used a mix of small, medium and large bar clamps as well as some spring clamps to hold everything in place overnight.
