Default 18MZ User Manual....

Guys, seems the 18MZs are only 10days away from being delivered to lucky folk in the UK

In the meantime, I have found a copy of the manual so those who have them on order can read up prior to delivery!!

Oh, and you can see what every piece of an 18MZ (internals) looks like [X(]

Enjoy!

Cheers,
Mark

It's great to finally see the manual. With that much info available I'm surprised that Futaba hasn't released more info to the modelling press (and their website).

I've already noticed one thing that I think could have been done better and one thing that is still causing me to hold back.

The TX has an onboard SBus Programmer but, to use it, you have to plug in a 'Y' lead with a RX battery attached (similar to when you are programming the servo via a PC). What is all that about? Why can't they supply the required power from the TX? It seems like a very poor design to me.

The show-stopper for me might not actually be anything to do with the TX but more to do with the RX. It seems that the only telemetry capable (SBus2) RX available is the R7008SB. If I am setting up a simple model like a C-ARF Flash with JR servos, it is likely that I will run out of conventional channel sockets. The only option will be to use a Powerbox, 2 RXs or decoders (or restrict myself to SBus Servos). Why would I want to do that? IMO they need to release a RX that has more conventional outputs so I don't need to add extra, unnecessary, components.

I'm interested in battery life. A 3500 lipo is a great start. I wired a 2500 lipo to the 14mz, get over two hours

But please correct me if I'm wrong, I think in this case you'd be able to use a normal R6014HS Rx by selecting the transmition FASST MULT.

I think the SBUS is not a different transmition protocol but just a different way of transmitting the signal from the RX to the servos.

So there should be no difference between the 18MZ and the 14MZ if run at the FASST MULT setup.

Tassos is right but I guess the point is, if you want telemetry via the SBus2 port then you are restricted to 7 channels....for now

Check out this classic '18 Channel' radio from the late 80's. I pulled it from an old RCM Mag. It's even on a Futaba radio. [8D]

Default RE: 18MZ User Manual....

Hi guys,

Does anyone know how (if at all possible) one can adjust the tension of the LST and RST controls. On my 14MZ these controls were nice and easy to move with my forefinger whilst flying, but on the 18 they are terribly tight.

On my 8's (which had the same problem) I could easily get into the Tx case and manually soften these controls. But I don't really want to go digging in my 18 to do this.

I hope I am just not seeing how to do this in the manual, as I cannot believe Futaba can allow such bad operation on their flagship Tx.

Cheers,

Jan

Jan,

I am with you .. I use the right had slider for brakes and it is quite a bit more aggressive ratchet than the 14MZ .. perhaps someone can enlighten us on an adjustment...
