JET LEGEND VIPER BUILD THREAD

RE: JET LEGEND VIPER BUILD THREAD
3 more great flights today. Tested out the Crow on landing flaps and worked well. I only have about 5mm deflection but it seems to do the trick, slows down a lot quicker once I come off the throttle. My right strut is still giving me grief, just keeps sitting low, even with the new oil and air. Compared to my mates viper mine sits very low on one side. I think I may order a new set of struts for it and see if that helps.

RE: JET LEGEND VIPER BUILD THREAD
Guys,
I put three more flights on my Viperjet on Wednesday. I started playing with a P-Mix to dial out unwanted roll coupling in knife edge. I just about have it dialed. The new Merlin 100X is a real powerhouse, perfect combo for this plane.

Got mien going and I have my first two questions. The turbine mount rails are not glued in, which makes them great to modify which I have to do. Did you guys glue yours in?
Also, the 1mm tubing that goes to the gears, what is that about and how it is it used? Everything I have, valves and such are for 2mm tubing. Why did they do this? I have never seen this before. Where do I get more of this tubing if needed?
Let me know how you set your gears up if you used standard valves.

Mount rails don't need to be glued, they should be bolted in to some alloy mounts on the mid former. This is so you can remove them if you wish to fit smoke tanks.
The airline is 2mm. I think Jeff posted earlier that you need to order the 3mm-2mm adaptors from Jetlegend. They also sell the wiring air harness for the LG to the air setup. Mine was pre installed via GJC so I'm not sure what the additional costs are.
Cheers

Hi
If youscroll back to my post 83 on this thread you will see that with a little persuasion you can tease the new 2mm air line on to std fittings.

RE: JET LEGEND VIPER BUILD THREAD
The air fittings for coupling the wing to fuselage are pretty cheap... I have air fittings and the full tube 'loom' with the fittings included. If you use any 3mm fitting on your air valves you will need a few 2-3mm adaptors but you may have enough supplied with the viper anyway, or you can tease them on as Mark has. The 2mm tube has appeared on a few JL jets recently; personally I prefer the 3mm on bigger jets but this stuff seems to be fine on the Viper.
Use the multi adaptor 'bar' supplied too; I found this very useful for connecting common air supplies.

ModelManCan, I am stealing your idea with the tanks, I really like the way you set them up. I am going to use two 24oz dubro tanks int eh smoke tank position, and then one of the stock tanks up front. I am guessing they designed this jet with the smoke system assumed so it would even out. 100 oz of fuel that far in front of the CG is not acceptable. I fly from grass and that forward of a CG would suck!
I'll have 98oz of fuel still, only missing 2 oz. Thanks for doing the research and trying this out. Great idea!

I fly from grass on the stock tanks just fine but if I was building it against I would do the same as you. Just out of interest can you post a photo of the side of your plane showing where JL have marked the cg

RE: JET LEGEND VIPER BUILD THREAD
Greetings from the sunny FL. panhandle, I need a little help from one or two guys that have a Jet Cen. Rabbit in their Viper, and a picture would even be better, where did you place the fuel pump and turbine fuel valves.
Any help would be great.
Thanks
A4Driver45.

Hi Jeremy
You asked for a pic of the CG as marked on the earlier Vipers so here you are as marked on my "late" Red Viper
Ive also included a pic of my latest Viper, as you can see JL must feel that a slightly more rearward CG is still a safe starting point
I will of course stick with a CG around 35-40mm back from the centre of the wingh tube as I've found it to be perfectly safe.

Mine has the cg marked same as yours in the 2nd orange pic.
Is this too far back? I am confused by your post as you seem sarcastic about where the ch is marked but you say you moved it back further?
was your crash due to a cg issue! Too far foward?

Hi
The Tx has been sent back but with the Xmas holidays have not had any feedback as to whats wrong with it. Fortunately I have use of another Tx and more than one airframe.
Unfortunately my newTx had a bit of a wobbly and had what can only be described as a few "major glitches" on a fast pass at about 30m high and 150m down wind going away from me.

Hi, I did not mean to sound sarcastic?
The CG given by JL is a good and safe position and only ment they are now confedent with it being evan slightly further back and still very safe.
Ionlyhave it further back aftertrying it for many manyflights but would be comfertabel with the recomended CG.
I have flown with the CG as far as 50mm back from the centre of the wing tube but pherhaps thats pushing your luck a bit espesaly with empty tanks.
Further back than 35mm Ihad notnoticed any improvements in handerlingso kept itthere as I know its safe evan with compleatlydry tanks!
No my loss was not caused by a rearward or forward CG but unfortanatly a compleat loss of RC control

Hi All
More Lights!
More Lights!
Ive got fed up with only being able to see my Viper "coming and not going" so have fitted some extra lights at the back
The LED are some lamps supplied by a chap called William Mansel and are availabel from stock now.
They are very bright indeed "don't look at them directly" there on par with the ones from Braincube but are not in suchfancy bezels.
The "Hi Lights" I've fitted in the ventral fins are only £3.65 each and come with a resister to suite your chosen voltage.
Ive also fitted Hi Lights in green and red to the tips along with some "Super Lights" costing £5.50 each facing forwards.
To help make it look evan it more like a Christmas tree a flashing red led has been fitted to the fin along with white flashing led,s to the top and bottom of the fuz.
The 3 lamp "Flash-Flash-off" unit inc 3 leds was also from William costing £14.50
I haveviewed them outside but at only around 30m (The length of my back garden) they look very promising, will let you know after the first outing on Friday.

Hi
OK I take that back there more than just "Fancy Bezels" I did not mean to be derogatory, Braincube supply a very good product.
Fact is were I've put my rear facing lights in the ventral fins and at the top of the fin I cant use bezels there be it with a heat sink or not.
Braincube do supply there LEDs with out a bezel and I have ran these for some time and they seam to cope OK.
These "non bezel" LEDs would still not fit as there PCB mouting board gets in the way.
These "non bezel" LEDs would still not fit as there PCB mouting board gets in the way.
The other prob was Braincube did not have and still don't have any stock so found these others online to use instead.
If these new ones are not quite as bright there still going to be better than ones I simply cant have or fit.
On this Viper Ive spent £40 on 9 lights of which 3 flash, it cost me £57 just for the four tip lights on the first one, but there were very good.
Lets hope for some fine weather so I can go out and admire them from afar
