I had a thought about futaba and I will send offf a question:

Futaba offer 7.2V serbvos, and yet the RX only spec to 6V. How do they propose we use thier HV servos with the 6V RX?

Exactly. I like Futaba, the contradictory specs, and advice/info from their reps, is ridiculous. The only way is to add gizmos that take the battery volts, feed one level to the servos, another to the receiver. But here we go again with more stuff to put in a jet.

My standard power setup has been 2 LiFe's to a Fromeco Wolverine switch to a Orbit Power Jack that's plugged into the 6014HS. Simple, light, works good, lasts a long time!

Not to mention, futaba doesnt seem to sell said gizmo, to allow to use HV servos with their RX.

I'm thinking something like a Smart-Fly PowerExpander Pro would do the trick...but I think all it does is take battery power up to 8.5V, then dial it down for the receiver and servos. Of course, it does other things for electrical protections.

I don't have first-hand knowledge of, or experience with, one of these...just thinking out loud.

Does the orbit power jack have a regulator for the RX? It also takes V up to 8.5 so I wondered if it down regulates for the RX. No need to down regulate for the servos though!

That's the way I understand it to work:

"The Orbit Power Jack 6014 is a 14 channel servo-amplifier / buffer with double voltage regulating for the 6014 receiver. It is plugged directly in to the 6014 by 42 precision jacks. The power is supplied via two MPX high amp connectors from the battery(ies) or the switch harness(es). Because of its small and lightweight construction, the Power-Jack 6014 is particular suited for middle and large models with longer wiring and digital servos."

Further, the manual states that the Power Jack will accept battery voltage input from 4.5-8.5v and send that volatge straight to the servos. The dual regulators send 5v to the receiver. Simple, light, works good.

Hi Randy,

When you a smoke system, put tube as far back as possible. The best is to have it outside the exhaust pipe. The shock from injecting cold fluid into the pipe will shorten the life span of the pipe. It also create stagnation point in the flow that will sometime choke the flow and cause flame out at idle. If you need to put the injector inside the pipe, then at least 8-12" away from the turbine. Also runs the injectors parallel to the exhaust to minimize shocks from injections of cold fluid.

Mike, good to know, thanks. With a turbine that has no exhaust tube/pipe, the sticks are just aft of the engine tailcone...i.e. the Boomer.

So, is the smoke 'stick' that comes with the smoke kit is long enough to be placed at the exit of the exhaust pipe? Perhaps once RCU gets their picture posting mess sorted out someone can post pics of their system install...the ol' picture is worth a thousand words thing

Randy given the rats nest in that Pic FROM JL I see now I would just opt to do it yourself.

No kidding! Might as well just do it myself from the get-go, because I'd just end up going in and re-doing their work anyway to tidy things up.

Does anyone have the lengths for the servo extensions?

Would like to get stuff in so I can start on mine when it gets here. Thanks

Also, what size servo will work for rudder? Will a std size work or do I need something like a Jr 3421 servo?

Standard size all round,

Randy, I received my viper as the pro wired and it certainly wasn't a birds nest, all airline and ext leads neatly run and clipped into. I didn't get the servos or anything else but the ext leads and all airline was pre installed. The retracts worked straight out of the box, plugged e valve into my rx and flicked my switch and off they went, that was 20 mins after unpacking.

I've attached the image below, just to explain it before anyone says that looks like a birds nest, the ext leads for the wing servos are tied to the top of the equipment tray for shipping, they obviously come off and are attached to the servos sin the wing, all other leads have been run and are sticking out ready to plug into my rx.

The last three I have bought in were all like this except for 1 which had the servos installed so the ext leads were not tied onto the top of the equipment tray but already connected to the servos.

This was done by GJC China Factory. Hope this helps

Cheers

Jeremy

Jeremy, that is a neat install! I think my friend Rocky got his as a ARF Pro Wired, and the basic install looked fairly neat. I wonder if things get a bit messy when getting the jet "turn-key."

After talking with Rocky, and with the good help here from you all, the ARF Pro Wired looks like the best option. Heck, when Rocky told me it comes with the control surfaces hinged and the arms installed, that's the hassle stuff and it's already done!

Yep all hinged and ready to go. The saving is in the air line been Pre installed as JL use a 2m Airline to 3mm in places this is all done and the digital brake and retract valves are excellent. Plenty of pics in here and if you need more please pm or email me and I can send through what you need.

Cheers

I bought the arf and the hinges are done, nothing to do with the wiring options. Anyone can make the servo wires only look neat, its the final layout that counts!

Hey I am not saying I am the neatest but I also dont charge $600 for my work,

Have you guys been using the supplied linkages, or have you gone to aftermarket items? Also, is the elevator linkage close to the pipe and if so, have you guys gone to metal ball links?

Thanks

Jeremy, what type of linkage did you use on the elevator? I ask because the linkage seems to sit right above the pipe and I was concerned with heat.

Seeing as my kit is still a month out, I was just wondering if I needed to order metal ball links or if the ones it came with are ok.

Thanks

I used metal ball links, 4-40 rod with carbon tube and aluminium tape over the servo hatch

Does anybody use wing bags for there wings and if so who is making a set to fit them since the winglets make it kinda hard to use standard bags

There is a website
www.jackiesacks.com

If somebody would post the root, tip, length of the wing, and how high the winglet is, I am waiting on a quote from them.

Thanks,
Larry
