Well, having known about this model from the start it would be rude not to have an all carbon custom paint schemed spider version by now wouldn't it?

New Spider Aurora being shipped shortly, photos to follow once the model comes out of detailing. The factory guys have been given artistic license so no doubt the model is going to look superb. Juggling between the PBS TJ20 & the Jetcat 180RX turbines. Will be fitting the new Aurora fully electric retracts and brakes, will certainly make fitting out the model even easier than it is now. The model will be at the JMA AGM hopefully flying but definitely for all to take a look over.

Yep, but Smitty stated.....

The carbon version was design/built for the bigger engines, but she weighs 1kg lighter.
So, is it 1kg (2lbs) or 2Kg? (I'd imagine it's 1kg)

At 10kg, is yours carbon or regular lay up?

When we first developed the carbon version a couple of months ago, the weight was just under 11kg.
The fiberglass versions was just over 12kg..

The quality has gotten better,as our workers have improved the layups and assemblies. We implemented a repetition system of training with active oversight and now
we are seeing the results..

EDF Crazy Aurora is out of the latest batch of fiberglass models, since he's saying his weight is 10kg, we definitely have reached our mark.

I'll reweigh the latest carbon batch once ready to ship and report on the weight. With this new information, I'm expecting the carbon to be under 9kg.

It is good to see improvements like this in the manufacture of a product. For people who bought from the first batch however I would think that they would be a little annoyed that they presumably paid the same as later customers but got a heavier model. It would be nice in our hobby if products were fully developed to the correct quality before they were offered for sale

I've bought cars for 50, 60, 90k etc in the past and the very next year they got improved for the same money.

I've bought 3k TVs that have been improved and cost less a few months later.

Where do you draw the line???

If they didn't listen and improve they'd get slated. Seems they can't win LOL

I have to say though that I've be very impressed with the way they do pretty much everything so far.

Sorry guys, i quoted my weight from memory before checking my notes. This morning i checked and my weight is 11.2kg with cockpit / clear canopy, from memory i thought it was 10.2kg. there would probably be 1/2lb to a 1lb in weight saving if you went for the painted canopy.

Im sure the factory can save a bit more but i feel the stiffness of the fuselage is just right for a large jet, any thinner and it would flex to much when handling it. unless it can be done with the same stiffness? not sure but im quite happy with it.

Well put

Both the Hawk and Breitling scheme have very good flight characteristics on a 160. Steve Haughty flew the model fully fuelled and took off into a vertical climb and flew off into the circuit. With the new slightly lighter models the flight performance can only get better but there is nothing wrong with the flight performance of the earlier models.

At that weight and if you went with a clear canopy and a pilot and say smoke and any other details you could be getting very close to the 20KG limit which is a little scary
