i dont agree!
its not about the money. its about the quality. it wouldent be more expensive to do it right.
and those who think this is a decent job. they should really get their eyes fixed at a doctor.

Don't forget the real reason why we do this hobby. Because it's FUN and EXCITING. Yes we need to throw some safety stuff in there so nobody gets hurt. We've all seen some very expensive high quality models meet their demise from a "dumb thumb" or a simple building error. You've got to admit this European "Redneck" model is both fun and exciting. As long as he's not getting in the way of somebody elses fun and safety .. Fly on with a big smile on your face!
P.S. : Don't fly over me, my house or my car.<br type="_moz" />

Unbelievable that YOU would be the one to reply to my post with a negative input.

LOL,
You don't have to be a snob to recognize borrowed time when you see it. You also don't have to be an Olympic swimmer to know when someone is drowning. The fact that the jet is seen taking off then landing in one piece has every bit as much to do with luck as it does anything else. The aircraft would never, ever pass a safety inspection at any of the fields I fly at, provided the club had at least one good eye. Money has nothing whatever to do with it. It's about attitude. If your attitude is, "We don't need no steenkeen seam reinforcement" or "what's a few overheated lines among friends?" then you're just an RC-related fatality waiting to happen. It really pisses me off when people take a cavalier approach to safety as though it's only their investment in jeopardy. Once that thing comes apart, you can't control what damage it does or doesn't do. Again, it's not a question of money. Plenty of guys over here are flying jets every bit as crappy (but with better paint jobs and prettier-although-less-functional landing gear) jets that cost thousands.
Guys like Eddie Weeks proved long ago that you could build sound, flyable DIY models on a shoestring without being reckless or apathetic about it.

Exactly! I completely admire the pilot for making it fly and land quite well but it isn't about this at all, this build is built too poorly, I don't think a week is good enough because that's just rushing things, even BVM take longer to build their jets and they have some of the best equipment available! This jet is built on complete luck and luck eventually runs out with a negative outcome!
This is nothing to do with snobbery at all, as I said before, you don't have to have money to own a jet, as long as you're skilled enough to produce some decent results then money does not come into it! I only use epoxies and these cost £30 for 2 kilo's and that's more than enough for one bird, carbon cloth at 1M is around £16, this is cheap in my eyes and is just the same as what the manufacturers use, there's no snobbery or money in that at all!
The guy would have been better off carving a foamie and then laminate it with 48gsm GRP and this would be much safer!

This isn't even just a jet issue. I sometimes see larger prop warbirds that I never turn my back on when they go for a flight. All airframes have an expiration date but you know the guys that expire early. I still admire the fact that he scratched built the jet, but it needs to be finished to a safer standard.

And then.. there is the issue of safe models piloted by fools. Just as dangerous but they make it through safety inspection.

I really don't see the reason to say this jet was not safe. I did not see any houses in the video. It was probably a hazard to itself and some dirt. I applaud the guy for building it.

Yeah!
Cuz heaven knows an out-of-control missile like a jet held together with a band-aid and a prayer needs to hit a house in order to hurt someone...

RE: omg worst jet build EVER *video*
Wasn't anymore dangerous than the long line of newbies that pile up trainer after trainer after trainer every weekend because they don't know how to install radio gear, balance a model or fly...
This hobby is supposed to be fun and we are supposed to help one another enjoy model airplanes. All I ever hear or see is the guys with deep pockets (and a high dollar plane in which their ONLY participation in creating was to slide their Visa card) for the most part, just rip everybody else.
I have listened to it and Big Bird events, I hear it on weekends at the local field and all I do is read that trash here.
Sure, the guys jet wasn't going to win Top Gun or any scale contests, but I have a feeling he has more fun than most of you do.
Man this hobby is turning into a bad episode of the "Housewives of the Radio Controlled Elite"...

RE: omg worst jet build EVER *video*
i simply cant believe the amount of people in this thread that think the "BIG 29" is OK as long as hees having fun...
i diddent think that even a idiot would find that quality fit for flight. not even a person with his first trainer ARF.
I posted this video, so we all could have a laugh over the misrable quality, not matter if we fly 20000$ jets or 100$ foarmies...

Yeah, that vid has been out for a few years. Hey, it looks and flys better than some import ARFs I've seen on the market today. Just because its a sloppy detail doesn't mean it's not structurally sound. I've also seen worse installs.
