RE: New Yellow F/A-18 Build Project
Guys I just bought one of the earlier (polyester) kits half built from the UK. The fuselage is almost complete and painted in the Blue Angels livery I need to do the rest...
couple of questions:
1. it does not have the carbon fibre reinforcement under the balsa skin on the wings and tail planes, would it suffice if cover the wing on top with carbon cloth as opposed to fibreglass?
2.any glue recommendations for polyester other than polyester resin?
3.will be reinforcing the fuselage inside with carbon clot and polyester resin in the areas that the new kit has this sort of reinforcement.
4. Shaun any chance of me ordering the new kits' former set including the aluminium reinforcement for the front spar bulkhead?
5. Any other reinforcements recommended for the old kit for turbine use? (I read the old threads but all the mods are scattered through out the thread and may have missed some)
Powerplant will be either a kingtech k180 or a jetcat 180, will decide when I finish the wings and mods...
Any advice welcome....

Awesome work Peter! Love the refuelling probe….very nice actuation work. You obviously have that servo operated. I presume you did the programming using your radio and the servo slow function with both servos activated by the same switch….18MZ?
Could you please explain how you achieved the angle near the head of the probe (at the end of the red painted section). Looks like some nice machining there and it appears as though the probe is functional for refuelling.
You opting for a P180Rx?
Thanks in advance.
Craig.

Hello Craig , long time buddy....
the probe is activated by two small Futaba retract servos no programming at all but carefully calculated mechanical travel ....
No fancy radio yet just a simple five channel oldie... :-)
I CNC 'd the probe head from the original drawing I found on the internet and it is functional by unscrewing a part of the head. I'm preparing the small signal light to be mounted on the actuating fork.
Thats all at the moment , next will come the precise scale functioning canopy system .
