Default Euro sport speed brake question

The Euro sport speed brake looks good.

With all the drag this airframe has does its speed brake have any effect?

Thanks
Johnny

The plane slows down real good without it, so I didn't install it on mine. But several people have told me that it is fun to play with in high alpha maneuvers.

Thanks Gary

I test fly all my jets at an open field, great for jet’s.

However my favorite field has a barbwire fence at each end.

Slowing down a jet is on top of my list.

Johnny,

im building one right now, and putting one in. Tood W. has me putting mine in he is the resident Euro expert. Im sure he will chime in. I just left his house and he is watching a movie, so look for him tommorrow. From what I understand, it really helps in high alpha manuevers. Good Luck.

Doh....Actaully, I was not online last night. Just left the PC logged on.... Watched "Identity" with the wife....Good but very weird....

Johnny,
The speedbrake is not necessary, even for short field ops. This plane has a huge amount of drag and will drop speed off almost instantly. There is some big advantages to having a SB though. First, it allows you to have all you access items (air, propane, fuel fill, manual fuel shutoff and engine data bus) available without having to open the plane up. In addition, it gives you a great location for the UAT without having to run fuel lines up into the nose of the plane, then back to the engine. It also gives easier access to the center section of the plane. The big bonus, it really helps in High Alpha! The extra drag allows you to get the nose even higher and ride the pipe. With the speed brake deployed, I can ride a 45deg high alpha at 20 mph 5 feet off the deck and fly a full pattern this way...... Only drawback to having the speedbrake is it is extra work to install and, you will need a jettronics 2 port electronic valve to operate it. The reason for the Jettronic valve is you will need to be able to open and close the SB manually when the system is powered down. With the jettronic valve, when you turn off the power it bleads the air to the cylinder allowing manual operation of the door.
If you havent already, check out the ES mod page on my site for more info at www.lov2flyrc.com

Todd, what about a beefy high torque digi servo on the speed brake, as I had on my Hot Spot? That way you could also manually operate, if you do the linkage right.

Mark,
Certainly could be done with a servo! There is room under the brake to do so as well. It would take a beefy servo though and by the time you buy the servo to operate it I think your in it for the same amount of money as air?

I do not doubt that it would be cheaper with air, but I have notorious bad luck with air systems and so prefer a servo.

Ah.....your one of those in the "Air leak club" .... On of my friends here has gear problems with his euro every time we go out. I am usually landing his plane for him because he either has one gear, two gear or no gear. I've gotten quite good at landing on one, two or no wheels [sm=biggrin.gif]. I finally made him rip his entire air system apart and install everythig fresh.... Somehow, I think it will still leak [sm=eek.gif]

No, I have not, but I want to. I have not yet done so cause I am far too busy at work right now. Hopefully, as the Shuttle gets closer to flight, I will have a life again, but I do not know when that will be. I'd consider buying one for the future, except I don't even have enough time to clear out a spot in the garage.

Mark

I know where you’re coming from.
This 911-war thing has had me working what feels like 24-7 over the last year or so.
Having Saturdays off now is new for me.

After the wife and kids are all happy at the end of the day I have about an hour left in the day.

Some time I just pick sleep.

Johnny
