I got few more flights on my Fouga at Mississippi Afterburner last weekend. Really a pleasure to fly and lots of interest from guys who had never seen one in person.

A couple of minor items to report for those building (or flying) a Fouga:

1. Check all 2mm screws on the flap hinges and gear doors for security. None have locking nuts or Loctite and many of mine were loose after a few flights. Some of these are indicated with red arrow in the pics below.

2. Check and tighten (hard) the bolt that clamps the main gear strut to the retract block (blue arrow). One of mine was not completely tight and it allowed the main gear to pivot some.

3. Not sure if this is really necessary but David Payne (who acquired Ali's red Fouga) suggested putting an extra former between the ply pieces that center/hold the thrust tubes where they exit the fus. The purpose is to strengthen the fus in that area and minimize some of the twist in the v-tail. It seems to have made mine a little stiffer.

Looking forward to flying mine again soon

Craig

Craig thanks for sharing. Always makes one feel better to get positive feedback on the flying qualities of a new bird. Also nice to get feedback on stuff that might cause problems. Was busy finishing the heinkel 162. Will get back on mine. Have installed the nose gear steering and elevator servos. Roy

So my fouga has the scale hinging, so need to place the control horn dead center so no binding of flap during extension or retraction. Decided to do outboard flaps first. Turns out there is room to fit in a MKS HV 747 servo in a pseudo-rib. Works fine. The inboard will be easier to do, more room and access in wheel well.

I do recommend on applying three thin layers of BVM heat shield on the backside of the parts prior to installing them on the fuselage in order to insulate their heat from the fuselage itself , thease are metal parts and they heat up sigunficantly ( metal is an efficient heat conductor ). If it isn't insulated from the fuselage it will create a heat burn and damage the surface that is in contact with it underneath .

Lavi rider,

I did put a single layer of ceramic blanket between heat shield and fuselage. Do you think that is inadequate and still need to add BVM heat shield?

Thanks

Roy

Sure how can I help you. Basically I did the outboard just like the inboard. I mounted the MKS 747HV servos on a pseudorib like the pictures and glued in by the airbrakes making sure the rib and servo cleared the airbrake. I did have to do some grinding to get it in place. If you want I can pull the airbrake out and try and get some pictures. The disadvantage is if you need to replace the servo most likely might need to break the pseudorib free to get servo out. Very short pushrods also. I will be waxing up flap rails to make nice and slick for flap movement.

Hi Roy, thanks for the fast replay. your post # 136 says it all.
no need to pull out the air break. from the pick it looks like I can fit slightly larger servo.i have savox 1270 tg I may make the servo on a sliding railes for future service .
tamplet for the servo housing may help.
for the grease I use RED "N" TACY #2 GREASE. made in usa by lucas , good stuff .well the fuel tanks are ready , working on the cockpit ,need to finish the painfull flaps .

Here are some pics. Looked last night but template I used long gone. Would b e surprised if you could fit a full size servo. I did make a rail to slide the pseudorib in position. You can see in the picture hysol holding the pseudorib in position. If I need to replace I would just need to grind away the hysol and should slide out.I'll look at that grease for lubing my rails.
