Default any way to put some color in fuel?

I wanted to ask you guys if you knew of some kind of (SAFE FOR TURBINES) additive that could be put in jet fuel to give it some color. My f-16 has 3 Kevlar tanks and the UAT is actually up under the back half of the canopy it's not very easy to see and I had been having problems with flame outs, I think I have it fixed but I would like to be able to clearly sfuelee the actual fuel level in the tanks and the UAT to verify Levels and it's really difficult considering the fuel is clear.

IF your turbine is one of those that is approved to run on 2 stroke oil mix, most if not all 2 stroke oils have a colorant in them so you can identify mixed fuel.

There's red dye in "off-road" (no road tax) fuel. You could either find out what that exact dye is or just use that fuel. Before switching to diesel, I used the dyed fuel without issue.

Back in the day, (60's and 70's) I used to mix my own glow fuel, and sometimes dyed it with food coloring. It had no effect on the fuel, other than to color it, making it easier to see the fuel level in the plastic tanks.

Amsol Dominator 2 cycle Synthetic oil is red. I used to use it before I went to DTE. Works just fine, 1 qt/5 gal.

I use Klotz synthetic 2Stroke oil. It is red and colors the fuel bright pink. I hve use it for the last 3 years and works great in all my Wren engines.

Another cause of flameouts that I have seen are batteries that are not fully charged. After a couple starts the battery theoretically has plenty of charge. But in reality, there is not enough power to complete the start and the result is a flameout on a start. During takeoff and landings, static buildup also can cause a flame out. Anti-static fuel additive and spray on the gear helps to cut flameout due to static build up. A rubber tire touching the gear can really casue a lot of static charge buildup.

You did not say when the flameout occurred so, I listed some other considerations to think about that can cause flameouts.

To be more specific, I am running Jet A I just got another 55drum so I currently have about 65 gallons. the turbine in the F16 is a Kingtech K-210, I have been running the Jetcat Turbine Oil with the anti-static additive in it, and I also pour in 2 cap fulls of anti static from dreamworks with every fuel mix. I also use the anti static spray from dreamworks and spray my tires before each flight,,

Here is one that will work. There are many others.
http://www.dieseldye.com/diesel_dye_news.asp?ref=6

The smallest one liter bottle will dye 2600+ gallons of fuel. You mix it at 10,000 : 1. That would be 1.9cc (.064 oz) in a 5 gallon jug.

If you are using something like DTE that comes in a 5 gallon pail You could dye the pail of oil with 38cc (1.28 oz) and then it would also serve as a marker to tell if you already added oil to a jug of fuel.

2stroke oil for outboard engines. (as it's made to reduce soot when fishing at idle)

Ditto on the Mobile Jet . It turns the fuel dark brown. I have a K 170. When I bought it new I asked Barry about the Mobile jet. He said that oil would be fine. That is what I have run ever since.

Wow did you have a problem with static or something?

No I just have a buddy in Arizona that is helped me a lot and he always recommended making sure there was anti-static in the fuel mixture and spraying the tires before every flight to play it safe against any static problems

Hi

I have always used premium paraffin and that comes tinted Blue straight out the pump.
Here in the UK at £1.05 Lt
its cheaper than regular diesel at £1.18 even Red Diesel.
It shows up a treat in the tanks and fuel lines so is easy to see how full/empty they are.

As far as I'm a wear and told by my local paraffin supplier UPTON OILS Red diesel is simply regular diesel with die in it and "a little less tax" which for reg diesel is normally 66% + 18.21% VAT certainly not "no tax" .
I don't run diesel or for that matter consider Red diesel in my turbines as for me its simply dearer here in the UK than premium paraffin. Paraffin also has the befits of burning extremely cleanly and is far far less smelly to transport and store though I can understand its use in some parts of the world were it is the only readily available fuel. I have used diesel and Red diesel for smoke fluid a wile back, it worked very well, bit more messy than commercial smoke fluid but a fraction of the cost, still comes out White though!

There have been some interesting threads on RCU regarding to pros and cons of running diesel if your care to have a search.

Some interesting costing's on fuel and tax charged on it
Should we get to up tight with our fuel suppliers and producers? although by virtue of volume they seem to do alright ;-). First they have to find oil then drill for it, transport it half round the world to the UK, refine and distribute it all round the country and dispense it all for there cut at 40p "ish" per Lt. Now once all that accomplished our government can simply sit back and collects its huge amount of tax they impose on it, do you feel ripped off or what. Just to rub it in the many, many tens of millions of pounds of fuel revenue brings in for the our beloved chancellery certainly doesn't all go towards building new roads or even simply repairing pot holes round here, I'm seriously thinking about having to get a Jeep.
As for the costs of fuel abroad, in the far east its far less expensive to buy fuel oil and "at there pumps" its only 15-20p Lt, in Venezuela its an astounding 10p Lt!, were missing out some were along the line over here!
