Definitely do not use a P20 (30mm) pipe with the X45!! The pipe has to be 45-55 mm to get the performance and a small pipe will run very hot and lose thrust.

Very hard to get this jet in Australia now, but this company in France appears to have stock. Also listed is different weights with different turbines and from my experience, the X45 will be way lighter than a P20 install, which is in turn lighter than a K30 install. I don't know the weights of a Kolibri equivalent engine to the X45 but would be interesting to find out. The total flying weight of the X45 including battery is 544 grams which makes it one of the lightest engines for it's power on the market, no wonder Gasper is working flat out to satisfy demand! So for anyone building this jet, a TOW of 4-4.2 kgs is entirely feasible and with a X45 engine pushing out 4.6kgs, excellent performance is guaranteed!!

I’m not sure the X45 install will be ‘way lighter’. The engine is exactly the same weight as the P20 so it is only the ancillaries that are lighter. The P20 pump, ECU and valve block are heavier than the X45 equivalents but they are by no means heavy.

I am also quite happy using a light pipe with the P20 whereas I might personally prefer a slightly more substance twin wall pipe with the X45. If you’re using the full power of the X45 you will also need more fuel.

The X45 is clearly much more powerful than the P20 and is a great engine for the Mini Avanti, but the P20 is also fine from hard surfaces or short grass.

Yes, agree that not alot of difference between P20 and the X45 in weight, but big difference in thrust. I had about 50 flights with my P20 powered Avanti and it flew well, but so much better with a more powerful engine. I reckon that a overpowered jet will use less fuel than one that has to have the power on alot more, because I find that about 70% power is more than enough for most manoeuvres in this jet. From my style of flying, I use 5-600mls of fuel for approximately 5-6mins of flying, and earlier,I posted a video in real time to try and show real time fuel consumption with X45/Avanti. Generally, a twin wall pipe is for cooling purposes, not strength, and my Grummania pipe is only twin walled in the rear to protect the stab spar..

www.turbines-rc.com is where I recently ordered my mini Avanti.
Ordered the bird and the JP retract / brake set.
Fantastic service...order was processed within 24 hours
Ordered the conversion set through HAB
Looking forward to flying it with the X45.

You will love it!! The JP retracts look very good quality but possibly a little heavy, but you will have so much power, a little bit of extra weight won't worry it. I even flew mine with a K45G2 and total weight was nearly 6kgs! Turbines don't require brakes in Australia, so didn't bother with this jet as it lands so slow, and almost zero idle thrust from the X45. My larger Skymaster jets all had brakes, because too high a risk of damage running of the end of the runway into the rough, but will be very interested in your final weight, good luck with the build and please post some pics!

I am also confused by the x45 being way lighter than p20 and k30 install, there is 80 grams between a k30/k45g3 and x45 and 30g of that is in the turbine body but pump and ecu so can be used to balance. The x45 also needs a beefier battery to start. Reality is these turbines installed in a Avanti at least are very close. The k30/k45g3 needs only to be 80g heavier install than x45 at most. The x45 is a great engine with it's fast start and the deceleration times and low residual thrust are the real differences to me. Let's see which of these highly strung engines consistently gets to 25 hours in one piece before declaring a outright winner lol.

Raydar, hopefully the X45 does stay together because I now have three! I sold my P20's and a K45 G2 and yes the weight difference is probably minimal but every bit counts in these small jets.,I found the P20 kero start needed a high C LiPo to start, so am using the same batteries for the X45. They are all 70c rating, but different sizes depending on where I need the weight. On my Freewing F86 which had a P20 in it, I was able to remove 200gms of lead from the nose when I fitted a X45 in it . I was able to move the engine further forward because I made up a 50mm pipe to handle the power of the X45, so possibly that helped my CG as well.

Lol three you greedy bugger, you love them little engines, I have to agree they are a cracking bit kit. Yes my point was only that size/weight is not the major factor/drama between k45g3 and x45 that some make out to be. The x45 def is in the lead though.

Yeah, I know, but approaching retirement now and selling off older engines offsets the cost, so when I do pull the pin, I will have plenty of toys to keep me happy! Plus the Australian agent love me!! Because of the size of these little jets, I regularly take three up to my club for a session, and they all fit nicely in the back of my wagon.

Contact [email protected]
Its better to email him as the HAB site is a bit difficult to navigate due to language.
He has been great to deal with.

May i ask what the hab coversion kit consists of, and the cost. I am converting my Avanti to a X45 and looking at what pipe and tank to install. Was planning on a Grumanian pipe and making a tank from a 1ltr bottle but hab might be a better solution.

Past conversions consisted of CNC Engine mount, CNC exhaust support ring, Fuel tank with accessories, Exhaust pipe 50mm
Cost around $150 US plus shipping. Have not received actual Avanti invoice yet. Will let you know in a couple of days.

Ok, thanks. I assume its a twin wall pipe. Do you know what size the tank is ?

Contacted Amir at HAB. The pipe is single wall and the tank is 1000cc. Tank would be ok but not so sure about the pipe !

spec:
Wren 44 gold manual start (gas)
Wren Pipe
2oz Uat.
950cc tank with aprox 200cc of fuel in tank

4.08 Kg all up
surprised with the weights others are quoting with the kingtech and X45 i thought i would come out much higher

That's about the weight of my Avanti with the X45, so some other installs maybe use heavy brake and undercarriage assemblies, plus a heavy dual wall pipe. Some have gone over 5kgs, so just goes to show a big difference in installs! Mine still flew really well when I had the older heavy K45 G2 in it, so just proves how well designed this jet is.

Mine is 4.79Kg
K45G1
tam dual wall pipe
2oz UAT full
receiver batts and ecu batt
Jet1A main struts - jp wheels brakes
tam nose strut - tam wheel
no fuel in tank - 1.7L kevlar tank

Flies amazingly well. lands incredibly easy. No thoughts of making it lighter

Does any one Know if the unbranded 17g servos, supplied by Sebart, will be ok on 6.6v. I want to fit a Spektrum power safe receiver with 2 Life batteries in mine. I believe the CYS door and steering servos are rated for 6v so should be ok. Will the JP retract controller, rated at 5 to 6v work on 6.6v ?

Rich the stock retract are JP units. Replace the struts with these and your golden.
