Default Skymaster F100 About readt to take to the sky

Well the tanks made it from Anton. Thanks for getting them my way. A little challenge to get them mounted but it looks great!!! A final balance and ready to maiden.

Here are some pics

Looks awesome! Good luck on the maiden, if it flies like every other HUN, it should do great!

Pilot figure say it will be delivered today. Then final balance. Used the time to do some weathering

Well I finally got to maiden the F100. It flys very well. Couple of things I discovered. The plane was very touchy on ground handling. I installed a futaba 240 gyro on the nose steering at the field and it made all the difference. It helped with braking as well. I flew the plane with all four tanks on the wing and I think they acted as 4 rudders so next time I am taking the inside tanks off and replacing with missles. They are much smaller and I hope this helps. The Kingtech 120 is the perfect power plant as the plane was very fast. Lots of fuel left after 6 minute flight so I would start there and add time as you test your throttle style. I would recommend the F100 to anyone wishing for a cost effective F100 that flys well. It has a wingspan 1 inch longer then the BVM. I not saying it is a BVM but for the money it is a great plane and it comes built and painted saving hundreds of hours on the building table. For those that have been calling me about the plane. Go ahead and order, you will love it

So was my Aviation Design F-100, and I was told by a flier of yet another brand that it too was touchy on steering. Seems to be an F-100 thing! The advice I was given, which worked very well, is not to go to full power immediately but partial power, say 2/3 throttle, let it build a bit of speed and then go to full power.

Lovely model.

It would depend on the grass. I always fly off concrete so I guess I am not the best source of info. Main tires are good size but the nose tires are not that big

Mississippi should be a go.

Slow throttle up just didn't work. Tried so finally went with gyro and it was the ticket for sure. I think most guys I talked to with BVM also use gyro

Forgot to mention that I used 345 MM back from leading edge at root for CG. Great place to start

A gyro on the nose wheel of any jet makes to the start (and end) of a good flight. All my jets have had gyros on the nose for 10 years.

Congrats on the maiden!!

Ravill

Agree with gyro. I have them in many of my planes but not all. Probably a good idea if nothing else then to help with braking

I didn't use a gyro for steering on my BVM F-100 and it tracked straight as an arrow.

Good deal. We have BVM F100s at the field I fly at and they use Gyro. So I guess it depends on crosswinds and help they provide us pilots that need help and extra boost. I think every jet will benefit from brakes with gyros especially in crosswind

Good point regarding crosswinds. A steering gyro is never a bad idea. Most of my jets have a steering gyro, just never bother to put one in the Hun.

BTW - Nice work with the weathering. Really helps make the surface detail pop.

cool comparison photos. weathering really adds that extra bit of realism.
