I'm glad to see someone was able to get the kit.
I tried for years to get a Lightning but was never successful.
I contacted Air World direct many times and never got a response.
I contacted a couple of dealers in England hoping they might be able to get the kit but none of them were interested.
I contacted Vogelsang and Air World told him they could produce a kit but the landing gear wasn't available! I guess they thought you could hand launch it.
I met Ali at KY jets and asked about the Lightning and he told me there's a reason why only one (now two) are flying after all the years the kit's been out-be thankful you couldn't get the kit.
Anyway, I'll never get to build and fly my two favorite jets, the SIX and Lightning.
Trond Hammerstaft did a thread on his Lightning build. I can't find it but he was kind enough to send me all his build pictures and I'd be glad to email them to you if you want them.

Mostly a few switches and wires to do to finish this part, fairly happy with the look, I was trying to achieve the busy 3D look of a real cockpit and not th plain vacform bland style you tend to get from the manufacturers for 300 dollars plus

Hi
Was that the airworld supplied cockpit kit - I don't have one unfortunately, so waiting for you to finish and then work "along" side you with the build......
Going to be a nice jet I think - mine will be powered by a Kingtech 180.
Regards

Sunning work - mine will be on the bench tonight, and I should be able to post some pics within the next day or so - are you continuing with the fuselage, or going on to the wings next?
Regards
Gareth

As for power, my head says a 200, my heart says 2 140's, am undecided but HATE the idea of 1 engine in a 2 engined aircraft, even though i know it will cost me some grief and much money

On the maiden we had trouble getting the gear down so I flew it to long and ran one engine out of fuel on down wind. One 160 at full throttle was just enough with the plane in landing config to hold altitude. Landed and on roll out the other engine ran out of fuel.
Gear problem was a leaking door cylinder and the gear failsafe triggered but 50 psi is not enough to get mains to lock unless you get the aircraft real slow with the wind force.

A good question, im making the overwing tanks as im favouring the green/grey camo at the moment, not 100 % set ot it yet but reckon it will be camo as im a sucker ffor a heavily weathered aircraft

Hi Jon,
I'm Frank, the guy that been flying the SAAB J35 Draken since 2008. We're now living near Charleston, SC.
In any event, this will be my winter build for next season's
contest schedule. Would you please forward any build photo-pac you have received from Tron?
You may PM me or just attach to an email if more convienient.
As for the rest of this thread, I'm digging the progress and following it keenly.
Awesome cockpit work, should do well when installed and mounted with a scale jet driver.
Frank.

Hi Stephen,
I sent the pictures to your e-mail address, let me know if you got them OK.
Trond had a build article on his Lightning in the Dec 2012/Jan 2013 issue of RCJI.
I sent a scan of the RCJI issue that has the Trond's Lightning build.
It'll be a great help to you, no sense in re-inventing the wheel.
It'll be great to see another Lightning in the air!

Gents, delighted to see that you are modelling the Lightning which is my favourite aircraft. Many years ago I flew the beast, and I would be happy to try and answer any questions that you have. I flew the F1A and T4 and T5 on the OCU and the F3, T5 and F6 on the squadron. My last flight was in a T5 in around 87. Colin

Hi All,
I must say that this is a very interesting thread as I have this kit in my loft and the undercarriage. Like all Airworld kits I know it will be a monster to build. In just over 2 years I get to retire and then I will start. Geebeer3flyer, if you fancy making a second cockpit you will have a customer here for your excellent work.
Gareth, I would not suggest you power your lightning with a 180, it will not be enough. Ali had a BF300 in his and this was reasonably convincing, although still not enough for unlimited verticals. Having spent a lot of my younger days at RAF Binbrook watching Lightnings launch and recover, They had an absolutly blistering rate of climb, comparable to the 4th and 5th generation fighters of today.
This model is still on the UK circuit and flies very well. Ali always seemed worried about the plane (the gear mostly I think), not that you would know it watching him fly it. Luke who has it now seems fine with it and says it is much easier to fly than his AW Mig 21. Both Ali and Luke present the model in a very scale like manner.
Must admit that I am tempted by the twin configuration too.
BTW, if you want to contact Airworld, do not waste your time emailing him. He NEVER answers! Ring him! it's the only way.+49610679288, Hans Deiter Reisert.
Colin, where were you based?
