There is news of a very encouraging nature about the future of JR on the Flying Giants radio site. Very encouraging indeed.

This press release is from a couple of days ago.
One wonders of they will use the JR brand or the hideous DFA logos...

Note below from Mr. Konoshi

The following is a message from Mr. Konishi. Konishi Model Co., Ltd.
We have officially bought the trademark and technical data of JR PROPO.
At present, the name change process is underway.

Well I am greatly relieved having only ever used JR since early 80's. At the time we even got all the schematics for all the rx and tx pcb's as backup.
Just to recap. JR DSSS is way superior to Spektrum and on par with Futaba if not better. I know this because I am very familiar with the design of the RF circuitry.
Futaba scares me a bit with their telemetry injection on the main servo bus. With all the homemade style accessories some amateurs come up with this is less than ideal.

I spoke with Steve at Maxxpaks a few days ago, and was assured that they are expecting a shipment of suitable LI-Ion cells in about a month. The cells that are currently in stock do not the correct tabs for this pack.
The part number of the pack for the 28x transmitter is: P3402-XG11
The capacity is 3400Ma, which is substantially higher than the JR packs.
They must be removed from the Tx when charged as they lack the temperature sensor contained in the factory pack. Maxxpacks can also provide a charge adapter lead as well.

My guess is the current programming will be the basis for the new radio. When the employees (who hadn't been paid in 2 months) left JR, they apparently destroyed the molds and tooling for the 28X. So while we won't get more actual 28X radios, there is still hope that the programming will be upgraded with DFA's new radio.

It seems DFA are making progress.

They have announced new versions, NX, with larger bearings and new software, of the legendary 8411 servo.

That's been in planning for sometime...it had to happen for models designed around the greatest servo ever made. Many many thousands sold over the years and
I think I have had one faulty!

Is DFA going to bring back the “zero dead band”, precision, and centering performance that JR was known for in the past?

It is clear that over the past few years that this has changed

Who has parts and can still service a 12x? I have an aileron gimbal that feels grindy.

NX servos you program this, they are soft start to reduce loads.
sounds like the stick just has some grit in it, airline might cure that, I had some compacted grass get into one of mine and it just needed blowing out.

Program that ONLY if you have the right JR radio.....unlike Futaba and Hacker DITEX servo’s....actually can used software to do the same.

Jamie-
Did you have a problem with a particular model JR Servo ? Just curious, as personally I have never seen a high end JR servo that wasn't nearly perfect, except for those with very worn gears.
Take care-Mike O.
PS From what I see on the DFA fb page, they are testing the new models heavily so far before release.

Totally agree. Why continue to pine for a brand that's dead when there are so many superb options available? Is it a nostalgia thing?

Side note: I recently sold a plane to a fellow who asked me to program it on his JR 12x for him. Now at one time, I had 3 12x's and absolutely loved them but, haven't used one in years. So, he comes over and drops it off and I get to setting up his plane on it. What a friggin' programming dinosaur!!! The new Tx's are so much more intuitive and flexible!

Not sure why you would long for the venerable JR8411, a servo from the late 1990's. Ever use the new high end MKS stuff??? Again, freakin' superb!!!

I just still want to know if there is anyone servicing JR radio equipment..... I need a gimbal replaced in one of my 12X's and I've heard so many different opinions of JR America's including a recent rumor that they weren't servicing stuff anymore either, I love my 12X's. I have no desire to change to something else, even less desire considering I don't want to have to replace around 20 receivers because of incompatible protocol.

I get it Jeremy,

Maybe Radio South could repair it if they are still around? If replacing, you could always grab a DX-18 and use all your existing receivers. I know the DX-18 doesn't look quite as nice but, you would soon forget that when you realize the ergos and the programming blow the 12x away.

Default Jr 12X service

I talked to JR America’s about two months ago and they said they will service 12x radios.

Simple.

Many of of us have been using JR servos for very many years with total satisfaction. The 8411 has been an outstanding device delivering the utmost reliability , power and precision.

If DFA now make this NX compatible and delivers similar reliability, it will be an even more outstanding servo.

I guess in my jet fleet ( 14, all fully equipped ) about 1/3 of the servos are 8411s , the rest being developments of the 8411, 85, 87, 89, 6311 and quite a lot of the new NX 8931 a truly superb programmable servo.

Lets hope DFA continue to develop these superb products, I wish them every success.

Thanks David,

I have them in many of my jets too and 8711's and 8911's but, there are better products now that are currently available for any new builds so, I don't have to hope that someone continues production of the old JR servos.

I've been looking at the DX18 and it's probably how I'll end up going at some point but I just don't like the feel of the spektrum radio. They feel plasticky, I also am not a fan of the spektrum gimbals. I haven't played with an 18 yet so I don't know for sure that they're the same feel as other spektrum radios but the gimbal comment is something I've heard from other DX18 users.
