FYI, end of Sept there is a number of jet events , Fresno, Amos and then comes Best of the West Oct. Then comes Lodi in November. Kind of why a May, June event may be better. Also I believe Fresno moved their date years ago because of the Reno Races.

Already checked everyone's dates. Looking at Memorial day weekend for a fun fly to see what kind of interest is generated. If we have the event at the same time as the races you can do both

Yes forgot about Castle. I will probably be going to that myself
11-13 sounds like a good time since it's between others and ahead of Dixie

For anyone who wants to show up.....

There will be an impromptu fun fly May 11-13 2017

There will also be a camp out/fun fly over Memorial Day weekend for those not going to Castle

Jets are encouraged for these events

September 13-16 is the official event. Come fly jets and take some time to visit the Air Races.

Since Fresno was unfortunately cancelled, everyone is invited to Reno September 13-16. By then I should have more auction/giveaway items than I already have from my event that had to be cancelled in April.

The Reno Radio Control Club, home of High Sierra Jets! is sad to announce the passing of one of our former presidents, and one of the hardest working guys in the club.

Chip Haynes passed away Wednesday June 14, 2017

The Obituary in the paper reads as follows:

Robert "Chip" Haynes
August 7, 1958
June 14, 2017
Robert "Chip" Haynes, 58, entered into eternal peace suddenly and unexpectedly on June 14, 2017. Chip was born on August 7, 1958 in Denver, Colorado. He was raised by Erna Rae (May) and Robert Carlton Haynes.
Chip grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada where he graduated from Vo-Tech in 1976 with a certificate in electronics. Chip moved to Reno to pursue his dreams. He began his career working for Audio Inc., as an electronics repair technician. Chip then opened his own business High Sierra Sound and Video in 1983.
Chip married the love of his life Diana in 1999 in the meadows below Mt. Rose. They were happily married for 18 years. Chip was a member of the UNR OLLI hiking group with his wife. He was also a member of the Reno Radio Control Club and acted as President. Chip was an avid outdoorsman who loved skiing, camping, dutch oven cooking, hiking, and flying his RC planes.
Chip is survived by his wife Diana of Reno, Nevada; his daughters Heather, April, and Jennifer; his Uncle William (Gayle) McCormick; sisters, Julie (Don) Pointer, Kelly Gibson, Audrey (Paul) Glazier, Stacey Haynes; his nieces, nephews, and many other relatives.
A funeral service will be held at Mountain View Mortuary, 425 Stoker Ave., Reno NV 89503, Saturday June 24, 2017. A viewing is going to be held at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. The service will follow at 11:00 a.m. There will be a celebration of life at the same location following the service. Please join us in remembering Chip.
"A life lived with so much love never really ends, but goes on forever in the hearts of those who remember."
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Chip's memorial fund at https://www.youcaring.com/chiphaynes-854175

It's only a few months away!!! Make plans now to come to High Sierra Jets! September 13-16 2017.

With the unfortunate cancelling of Fresno, which I was looking forward to, head on up to Reno in September instead.

Be sure to bring some extra money to visit the Reno National Championship Air Races that same weekend, with the Gold races for all the money on Sunday the 17th.
The Indian colony plans to have the road improved (graded dirt) by the time the event happens so it should be smooth sailing all the way to the field.
There will be dry camping allowed on site, and our permit allows for cocktails after each days activities, so bring those too. Remember to drink responsibly as the permit can be revoked if anyone gets out of hand.
Please follow all the speed limits posted on the reservation land starting near the high school on the road out. The club field in now on Indian Colony land.

Feel free to check this thread for more information, or contact [email protected] with any questions.

I have received discount coupons and items from various companies in the jet community, and hope that more will roll in by the event.

Special thanks to the early donors:
Kingtech Turbines/Pacific RC jets
Fly Eagle jets
RTL fasteners
Chief Aircraft
Ultimate jets
Eagle Tree Systems
Smart Fly
HC&M Hobbies
AirBeast Products
and more to come....

Stay Tuned

New picture taken from a drone of the RRCC field looking toward parking and the pits. Camping would be along the back fence to the right of where the road comes in from this view.

I got word I may have some of the Fresno people come up for my event since theirs was cancelled. I sure hope they do. It will be great to have them. They put on a great show last year and I was really looking forward to theirs this year.

Welcome all

The pilot fee is $20.00 for all 4 days. (or longer) The club usually wants $10.00 a day, but we're only doing $20.00 for all 4 this time around.

I have coupons, gift certificates and a few items that will be raffled... The places that have donated are listed above.
$1 a ticket
10 for $5

Picked up a brand new roll of raffle tickets today. They are still in the wrapper and will stay in it until the event so the luck doesn't run out...lol

The mornings are getting cooler and the highs are coming down.

The long term forecast looks like sunny skies and mornings in the high 40's and highs in the low 80's, with density altitude in the 3000'-4000' range in the mornings in the afternoons about 6500' to 7000'

Looks like we might have a decent turn out so don't miss out.

Just under a month until HIGH SIERRA JETS!

Permit is finishing up, port-o-pottys on order, have items rolling in and some already here, the Indian Colony has the road freshly graded, and the weather looks good to go so far

Turn out looks to be decent from what I can tell so far.

Everyone is welcome to visit. Event flying limited to Turbine powered aircraft, EDF, and Ducted Fan only.

$20.00 a pilot for the whole event. You can show up as early as the 10th and leave as late as the 20th.

AMA safety rules apply with emphasis on FIRE SAFETY.

AMA Turbine Waiver required for all turbine powered aircraft, EDF only needs AMA membership.

I am a Turbine waiver CD, as will be some others present. This is a good event, and good field to get your waiver signed off before Best in the West

I haven't been in the groove for some time BUT, I got the bug again and I'm thinking of making the trip from SACRAMENTO, on Friday and may stay friday night for Saturday ( I want to stay ) Saturday will depend if I can work something out to get the day off ( very likely I will be off )

I will be spreding the word and asking the local jet guys from both club's ( WDA and AMOS ) to see if I can get at least three guys to come to the event.

The drive is not so bad for us, only 2 1/2 hours to get to the RRCC flying field.

That would be excellent. I believe some of the Fresno guys are coming up since they had to cancel their event. The more the better.

I'm reposting the directions as a photo so they are easy to save and another map for a general over view of the route.

I checked into some catering for Saturday afternoon lunch if anyone is interested. There has to be enough people, or they won't do it and it has to be prepaid. That being said.

It is $20.00 per pilot to fly at the event

For an additional $15.00 you can get a catered buffet style lunch on Saturday if we get enough people. (at least 10) who want to go that route

So for $35.00 you get flying for the whole event and catered lunch on Saturday, or course pending enough people.

You can pay ahead of time with PayPal using the link below (you have to copy and paste the link), and if we don't get enough people for the catering I will refund that portion of your payment.

Due to our field now being on Indian land, our trash service will be very limited so we ask that you take out what you bring in please...
