High Sierra Jets! September 13-16 20017
This is more of an open to all invite than an actual event for now.
Field is at 5000'
Runway is 620X70 paved with a small cross runway (290X50).
Covered area, a lot of workbench space BUT no power
It's only $20.00 for both days, or $10 for one day for non-members to fly.
It's out of town so no worries about noise, smoke, etc.
Dry camping is allowed at the field, and there are plenty of Casino and other hotels within 15-30 minutes of the field. There is food and a store about 10 minutes away.
One hole campground type toilet on site.
AMA and Turbine Waiver required.
Enter through Pyramid Highway SR445, then west on Eagle Canyon Road. GPS on flyer

Some directions:
Take Pyramid Higway (SR445) north to Eagle Canyon Road and turn left (approximately 5.5 miles from the McCarran and Pyramid intersection). Then follow Eagle Canyon Road up the hill past the schools and continue on until you reach the Indian Colony. Continue on the main road through the indian colony until you come to the dirt road. Stay to the left as you enter the dirt road and follow that until you cross the cattle guard. After crossing the cattle guard take the main dirt road to the left. Do not follow the power lines. The main road is well taveled, and usually reasonable for even cars. Follow that road about a mile and the field will be on the right. You will see the windsock as you approach. Please watch for speed limit signs on the Indian land. 45 after you cross into the Indian Colony, and it drops to 35 after you come around the bend at the bottom of the hill.
The best address I have is 9075 Eagle Canyon Drive, Sparks, NV 89441 That should get you to the entrance to the Indian Colony on your gps or phone maps.

Not at this time.
This is a do it myself kind of thing with the blessing of the events coordinator of the club.
The last time the club wanted to put one of these on no one showed up, so until we can make it a regular thing I'd be going out of pocket. If enough people were coming I may be able to get some club help in return for a donations or an extra few bucks on the landing fee.
If we got enough people coming, I'd consider hitting Costco or Walmart and getting some hotdogs chips and drinks for everyone. I was unexpectedly medically retired 2 years ago so I don't have a huge stash to draw from.
If people want to bring their own supplies there is a Walmart on the way that is right off of SR445 and easy in and out, and another grocery store right at the turn on Eagle Canyon.

Looks like a whole lot of fun, only wish it's more like a couple of hours away, have fun guys. Meanwhile, dsf, email me some details and I"d be happy to send some oil up for you to share.

My EDF's 90mm Viper and 105mm SuperViper do good until about the end of May. They aren't necessarily heavier, but they fly heavier, but manageable, up here during that time.
My Boomerang Sprint is close to 30lbs and it does alright too, and those things fly like a tank with all that drag.

Hi Skip, I will likely be attending. I was speaking with one of the other local jet guys the other day at the Carson field (Hal) and he is planning to attend as well. He mentioned he would be looking into camping on site.
Questions about density altitude - Just to back Skip up, it can get high in the mid summer like August - but this time of year will probably be pretty reasonably low. Field is at 5000 feet MSL. I've flown my 80N powered A-4 with a full bag of fuel at this site on 100 degree days in the past and it was manageable on the 600' runway. The approach paths are easy, clear and not turbulent. I've even landed heavy with half fuel and no worries, the runway is nice. On a 60 or 70 degree day in April it will be a piece of cake. What I like about the RRCC field is there are zero obstacles or anything at all besides sage brush to fly over, out there in the pattern. You have the sky and the ground to yourself. There are a few mountains in the background but they are so far out you'll never get even half way to them before you lose sight of the model.
At normal temps before summer gets cooking... sea level setups on turbines are fine. I've only had to adjust my spool up and spool down time slightly (slow them slightly) when it gets in the low 90's and upward for temp. Otherwise, there should be no worries for jets that can handle a 500 foot long, sea level runway in the summer. This 600 foot long, 70 foot wide runway will give you the little bit of extra takeoff and landing distance if you happen to need it. The over runs and shoulders are leveled decomposed granite for a sort of safety transition before the open fields.

Thanks Eddie. I think we will get a few Sacramento guys coming up from the looks of it. I still have fliers to hand out at Tucson too. I was hoping we would have campers so people can leave their gear in safety., so Hal planning to camp is outstanding. Hopefully the Coachella guys are spreading the word for me. I ended up not going because of the weather between here and there.
