Default Some questions on the mini T-1

Going to start assembly of the T-1 mini in a few weeks. I have the PNP version I guess with all the servos, landing gear installed etc. Pretty sure I have the Xicoy retract / brake controller. What Type and cell count battery do I use to power it? Worried about burning out the retract motors if I use to much voltage. Is it correct that I cannot attach the wings until I put the mains down? I fly Futaba and have been enjoying using the S-bus setup with a cortex pro gyro on some other jets. I have a spare HSD MFC-2085 ( Generic power box) around that gives dual input 2S lipo input and controls everything in a jet including the retracts and brakes. Do any of you have experience with it? It has been solid in my HSD F-16 and my HSD L-39 turbine. Should I really be looking at a basic power box setup?

Thanks,
Matthew

- 2s should be fine if they provide that...can always ask the dealer that sold you...the mini..

- Yes will have to be down to joint the wing to the fuse....I used a manual controller from Electron...(have electron gear on mine) but with slightly longer cable at the joint you could perhaps connect extend the gear then finish the install...

Same here, I have slightly long connector cables for the wings, I put the wings on the wing tubes and pull them out just a little, then use the MAN EXTEND function on the Xicoy controller to extend the gear. Then push the wings in and tighten up the retainer bolts. I reverse the process during disassembly. Some of us have burned out retract motors with a 2S lipo direct to the controller, and others have not had any problems with a 2S lipo (I own two T1 minis, one worked fine on a 2S lipo, the other burned up motors on a 2S lipo). I use that same Generic power box in my HSD F-16 as well and it has worked well for me, but I opted for HV servos in both of my minis so I don't need a regulator (except for the retract controller). -Tom

I was saying 2s lipo because now think they all come with the LG15 from the factory....

That’s weird I bought my T1 without gear and it still came with the servo installed for the gear door. I can take pics of mine on the mini when I get home later this evening. They use a mini-sized aileron servo for gliders.

If you look on page 7 or 8 of the manual, it looks like his early version was mounted vertically right above the door and below the forward equipment tray.

ordered it without servos also, had plenty of them laying around, that's probably why, I did by the mini size servo for it, just trying to figure out how to anchor it in there.

It is but I always like to see how someone else does something as I may learn something.Of course if you know everything, there's no reason for a manual.

The equipment layout on the blue deck is inspirational.
My models end up looking like a bowl of spaghetti.

Dude, you took that the wrong way. It wasn't aimed at you. Just a generalization although I forgot to take my pills today but it wouldn't have made a difference. I found no matter how long you are in this or any hobby, there's always something you could pick up from anyone and as you get older, you're more prone to miss something. A few years ago at a big jet event, I watched four or five experienced modelers who together had well over a hundred years of experience in this hobby maiden a new jet. Only lasted a few seconds. Newby mistake. Ailerons reversed. Whenever I put a new plane up, I ask a pal to take a look and I stop any friend who's getting ready to do a maiden and ask them to go through the throws for me. I 've saved more than one person from having a real bad day.

‘Well sorry then, I don’t know everything.....and I normally look at the manual if there’s one....mine was and earlier one.....along my T-1....but I pretty much never follow those manual....I take ideas from treads/FB ect...and my layout are far from perfect, but I take a long time playing with the equipment I intend to use...end changing it a few time.....then I cut an commit.....

As I build more and more jets....it come easier for sure, I build around 7 jets per winter (not all mine LOL) I’m a slow builder but being retired I have much more time and with COVID....I build a few more then I intended to do... I like to think that my building is evolving and with every model I learned something.....

I also have my fair share of crash...in the past 5 years I lost 4....none for the last 2 seasons...... not because I didn’t try

Have a look at the attached picture, I had one in mine but did not want to use it. So I made a mount to fit a mini servo. I used one of the aluminum servo mounts for a large servo and then cut and chopped and strengthen with carbon fiber to get what I needed.

I full understand the time it takes to build a high quality jet, an yes I'am a slow builder as well, it usually takes me 6 to 9 months for a single build. A couple of pictures from my TI Mini build,
