custom 18650 rx packs
I was about to order some a123 1100mah receiver packs the other day, but as I was surfing the web looking around, I found a bunch of 18650 batteries that are nearly twice the mah capacity and equal discharge rate when compared to th a123s. Guess I'm curious if there's any reason to go with the a123s over some of the newer batteries out there? And also, if anyone is making their own packs, which cells are you using?

18650 batteries are what is in Jeti RX packs and other similar ones.
I make my RX packs from pairs of 21700 Samsung 40T batteries. Slightly more capacity (4000MAH) than 18650s and able to deliver 30A. I use them as the sole battery for my X45 foam airplanes.

I bought a bunch of different 18650 batteries and they all tested to less than half the rated mah. After a lot of talking with the supplier I found out that they rate capacity by taking them down to 1V per cell. This is not good for the battery but artificially raises the mah.
