Hello!
Well, it flys great. I saw him flying at the recent Jetpower event here in germany. It is really stunning. And he build it in 1 year I think. The big Concorde for two 80N turbines he designed will be available fully molded in the near future. Let me translate the technicals:
Typ: Boeing 747-400
Scale: 1:16
length: 196 inch
Span: 177 inch
height: 61 inch
weight 60kg (approx. 140 lbs)
power-plant: 4x Skypipe with 80N thrust
peter has a special waiver to fly this big sucker. If the planes are over 25 kg (55 lbs?) and under 130kg you need a licence to fly them and the modell is checked before it gets registrated (as real planes..). They have to fly two times the same pattern to see if it was luck or skill
Best regards,
David

This is the same guy that lost the big Airbus at Top Gun 2001, isnt it?
Why exactly did it crash. I've heard that it was because of the crosswind at the Polo grounds, but i've also heard diferent.

I was there taking part in 2001 and saw it first hand. (got it on video too)
The Airbus was powered by 2 turbines. It was on finals to the polo field comming in over the trees beside the BIG flag pole.
Low airspeed (as it was on finals) combined with the fact that the left hand turbine had just gone silent, ment that it yaw'ed left when the pilot applied a bit of power to clear the trees. Rudder was applied right, but as it is not in the airflow of the LIT turbine the enevitable happened . . . . . . . CRUNCH.
Was a lovely model and a sad loss.

Yeah - that's probably part of the reason why Reggie hasn't converted his 747 to turbine power... he has one that is bigger that the one seen here - he's got it in a hangar up at Palo Alto if I recall correctly.

What a beautiful job. Would like to see it fly in person.
I had to check my video archives to see if this plane was the same or not.
It isn't but hope you enjoy the show.

I've seen that video far too many times.
I think that the 747 that this thread concentrates on is quite a bit larger and a lot more heavy. If the 747 in the video were this one, that guy would be toast.
Nice sense of humor SJN
