Default Jetcat P-80 question

Here's a question for Jetcat owners...can the 17lbs of thrust be de-tuned down to 12 lbs? If so, how is this done? I have a Mamba on order and getting tired of waiting forever. Since the price will be the same, maybe I'm better off going with the Jetcat if the thrust can be dialed down. My plane weighs 16 lbs.

Thanks,

Larry Brannan

Default detuned thrust

When you order your engine, tell them what you want. Kevin W has been flying a detuned P-80 for a few years. when he ordered it they set it at 14 lbs for him. It is just a limit set in the software, so you can have them reset it later to the full thrust.

Default Jetcat P-80 question

I thought that you can simply set the max RPM lower, to a value that gives you the lower thrust that you want, right? You don't need the JetCat USA guys to do it, right? I am not sure of this, but I think its correct. JetCat guys?

I am not sure about the state of the user adjusting the max rpm. to play by ama rules if jetcat sets it, and you are .9 to 1, you don't need to used the speed controller.

I think most of the jetcat guys are on their way back from st. george in utah.

You can just set the max rpm to the value that is at the thrust you want. If anyone were to question it just plug in your GSU and go to the limits menu and show them your settings. Or just add the speedlimiter and it doesn't matter. I did not like the idea of a speedlimiter at first but after playing with it all last weekend it is a great tool, and fun to use as well. JetCat's speedlimiter is integrated into the ECU so it can be used as a cruise control as well.

Pat I don't think the AMA rules specifically address that the manufacturer must set the max thrust.

I was going to say just put the limiter on it also, then you have the thrust when you want it

David,

Take a look at AMA's rule #17 in the turbine safety regulations.

I knew it was discussed a while back. Glad to see it still makes sense after the ama's "wordsmithing".

As long as you have manufacturers documentation the pilot can do it......at least that is the way I read it. I had too much fun last weekend with full P-120 thrust and the speedlimiter though....so I know what I am going to be doing from now on.
