Default Kangaroo first flight??

Looking for a couple of guys to describe a typical flight on their Kangaroo for me since I will try to fly mine this weekend. Just waiting on weather!! How much elevator needed on takeoff, length of take off roll reqrd. , landing speed, etc. I have a composite Kangaroo with an 18lb. engine installed, Robart retracts/struts, Trim brakes for landing, etc. The standard setup I guess. Hopefully will be flying at full scale airport so runway length is no problem. Thanks!!

Default Kangaroo first flight??

Well a flight on my Roo goes like this. Take off roll is fairly short for mine. Be sure to have the 1/8 inch reflex diald in. I hold about half up elev. and let her rip. She comes off the ground very nice. Fly around have fun and time to land. A Roo will slow way down and not stall. I usualy don't even use my speed break cuz it slows down so well. Sounds like you have lots a room for the test flight so don't worry. just have fun with it.they fly like trainer

Andy

Also try the search function on this forum. alot has been writen on Roo's, settup and flying.

Default Roo Flight

The Roo is a great flyer. There is only one characteristic you need to watch for. If you get it too slow inverted, it will go into a flat spin. I have seen several guys spin into the ground because they didn't know how to recover. Just get the nose down, which means up elevator, and be SURE to reduce power to idle. If you use power to try to fly out of it you will spin to the ground. If you use full power, you might even CHICKEN FLOP!

Default Roo First Flight

My first flight was beautiful. One thing you have to remember is to have 20 degress + caster in the front strut. It will track better on the runway on takeoff. Like the others said.... I run it up to half power on the brakes and let her rip with half up elevator increased to full power. I have a Jetcat P80 which provides me with awesome unlimited power. Landing is easy and you can grease her in even with a crosswind. She will want to glide forever... Just flare till the mains touch then the nose will follow. Its really an easy plane to fly! Youll love it. Ive had mine for 1 month and already have 32 flights on her! Im addicted! Good luck...

Default Kangaroo flight

Thanks everyone!! It sounds like everyone has the same opinion for flight characteristics and should be very easy to fly. Gary

Default Kangaroo

Unfortunately I did not get a chance to fly the Kangaroo today due a little to windy weather and also the advice provided by everyone here that I should make some minor changes in the setup. I wanted to make these corrections first and ran out of time today..
To RCMan: I have about 1-2 degrees of toe in on the Robart struts with the castor in the nose wheel also.
Will keep you all posted and thanks again to everyone.

Anurag,

It means, the Elevons neutral position is UP by 1/8" or 3mm. Deltas and flying wings need a positive angle of attack to fly at all.

Default Kangaroo first flight??

Gary-on our eighth flight with the Roo. Had tracking problems with first 4 flights even with those beautiful Eurokit trailing nose struts (highly recommended). Found out Engine was off center 1/8". Problem solved. Tracks as if on rails. We are still landing a bit fast though but are getting better.
Hope that helps.
