Ref of Graupner tank is 272 (Got it from Dave from Rotors and Motors) Well about the tank setup I would LOVE someone from the UK to send me the famous shampoo bottles... Wait I know I will ask Wren as I'm going to buy them
the engine maybe we can work that out.
BTW current waiting time for the MW44 Gold with autostart is about 3 weeks... just about the time needed to read again this thread from start to finish No just KIDDING !
Have a good day

I used two "Soft Soap" bottles available in North America. They are 590 ml each giving a total of 1.18 L. A regular clunk in the first tank and a Simjet clunk in the second to eliminate bubbles and to pull the fuel to the last drop. Plus I use a very small hopper tank with a central pick up. This does not allow any air bubbles into the sytem. This has worked great for me. I usually land with the second tank anywhere from 3/4 full to only 1/4 full depending on how much fun I am having.

Hi ALessio,
Spend a good hour this after noon at Carrefour and found dozens of different body care bottles designs, but none was good for a tank. (The opening would not be secure enough) I will try at Coop or Migros
The Plex bottles were only 300mml [:'(]
Thanks
Sk

My L39/44 combo will be flying on Sunday, 5 more flights for its 100th ! Since writing the article in RCJI I have changed nothing, it all works to perfection. I have another airframe "in reserve" and the only change I will make when I complete it is to use 361 servos on elevators instead of 9411s which just aren' t needed. My wife tells me she never bins any Plax bottles since I asked her to keep some back and now we have a cupboard full of them !
Any more high time L39s out there?
Regards,
David Gladwin.

I can't seem to get an answer on my question regarding thrust centerline and jetpipe/turbine location. I am using the ply wood mount as described early in this post. It has slots in it to allow full adjustment up and down and angular. That is the problem , there is no fixed point. Can someone who has their wing off check for me the dimension from the wing saddle cutout down to the edge of bell mouth of pipe or centerline of pipe. Once I set this I can dial in the turbine itself. Thanks Doug

On mine I have 20mm from exhaust to bell mouth rim and 80mm from plywood plate (rear) to rear opening. This is with a genuine Wren Wright pipe and per Paul Gray's drawing at beginning of this thread. If you read the article by Tom Wilkinson in RCJI, you will see the 20mm is fairly elastic and could be + or - 5mm. I reckon 20gives you max power increase. To align the engine with the rear end of the model - I had to put 1/8" ply under the rear lugs. The bottles just about touch the starter. On the maiden flight, I found the whole model virtually perfectly trimmed with all the control surfaces as recommended. I found the ailerons very sensitive and I would give yourself the option of 50% travel on your rate switch and at least 35% exponential on ailerons and elevator.

Thanks Henry but what i need is the height of the jetpipe at the bellmouth opening. Measured from the saddle up or the top of fuselage down to the center or edge of pipe. I have it set up now per the scale dwg that came with the plane but i'm not sure if this is correct. Somebody has to know this dimension. Thanks Doug

It is in here somewhere. I recall seeing a photo with the dimension drawn on the photo. I built mine from this photo. If you don't get a reply before tomorrow, I will take my wingoff and measure.

When you have the engine mounted in fuselage, look up the backend. You should see the engine centrally mounted (each side equidistant) and pointing towards you. I have the elevator servo just above it and Pauls engine mount just fits without alteration). Put the jet pipe in and adjust the bell mouth tabs so the engine is exactly central. It is a chicken and egg problem. Fit the engine then the thrust tube. They should align perfectly.
The elevator/ rudder/ aileron movements are all on the drawing that comes with the kit.

Thanks Tom, that will be a big help. When you pull the wing just measure from the wing saddle cutout straight down to the edge of bellmouth. That should get me close enough. I have the rear of the pipe fixed to the tail centered on the bottom round section with the same clearance at 3 , 6 , 9 o'clock. When i get the pipe set will install engine on same centerline. Doug

Here are some numbers just measured on my own machine;
Elevators: up 17mm, down 15mm. Measured inboard
Aileron up and down, 10 mm (yes, a LOT less than the instructions say ! Measured outboard.
Both have 20 % expo.
Rudder +/- 2cm At base of rudder.
Flap: about 15 degrees for takeoff/approach 60 degrees for landing.
Engine location, made easy if using my variable angle mount design.
The plane of the rear of the exhaust nozzle should ibe coincident with the rear fuelage wing cutout.
The distance between the very bottom of the rear of the engine case and the wing saddle should be 2.5cm.
The distance between the very bottom of the engine case at the front of the engine and the wing cutout should 1.8cm.
This will give you a thrust line about parallel to longitudanal datum and if you eyeball the jetpipe from the rear to get an exact line up all will be, should be well.
Thats how mine is set upand flies beautifully. Set it up with too much travel and a little aft C of G and things can get wild.

David Gladwin.

I was wondering about the landing characteristics for club flying out of a short grass runway, do you find you need to use the flaps or will it fly slow without them ?
